  1. Right so, what you’ve shown as proof is the grey area I mentioned. The rules did not always explicitly forbid that type of transaction. They have ALWAYS outlawed straight up money for gear. That was simply a workaround that we got away with for a while.

What it really sounds like by your own admission is that you’re just looking to sell your gear, not that you think this rule has much impact on server population.

For the record all servers have similarly strict rmt policies.

I think that's what killed me the most over time. The FOMO, looking for ways to move my busy life around when HH dropped..... I think boosting droprates during non HH is the way to go for sure but there is more to be done. Let's really look at DMC, let's fix that Ultima Bringers. Let's increase engagement on social platforms and let folks be rewarded for community interaction. The potential here is very high I believe we need a couple more GMs and or community reps to create community events. So much can be done, making Olga have some drops was fantastic and a step in the right direction. I also think Sonic Team Armor should be a rebalanced (Nerfed) I actually think if we did a community vote most would agree. HUcast should not have access to Serene Swan either lol. I could keep going but nobody would read it lol.

Almost all of this was on the collaborative list with 100% support from staff.

The only two not were ss and sta as the list in question was more geared at hunting mechanics rather than item balance.

Yall are crazy. You get rid of HH and the server dies, 100%. Theres no way that people go "well i have slightly better drop rates non hh now, gonna play 4x as much now!"

Do you have any evidence to support this? The only two servers with HH are having population issues and the one without is prospering with daily peaks ~3x as high as our one random 70 player peak in Christmas with an hh.

I would rather never fall below 40 players than have a couple of HHs a year with 80 people.

HH is not the only thing that drives who comes in and out of the server. It's a lot more than that and there is no sweeping it under the carpet either. It's both HH and Events that both do it solely because of how they operate. You see, your server does NOT operate on a whim, meaning that people won't bother (in most cases) to just log in and play in often intervals at any given point of the year. Instead, players of your server, for the most part, will only play in those given time slots.

This is the ultimate crux of what I feel is driving our yearly decline in both peak and concurrent population. These two together are elements that strictly disrespect our time as players rather than give us the opportunity to play normally when we are free.

This idea is from a list that was meant to be changes of certain things that I felt were in the right direction that I could also get all the staff to agree on. The total abolishment of HH without a permanent boost is obviously my first choice (best one as well), but was swiftly met with a rejection. This is a "meet in the middle" idea where the base drop table and HH aren't so far apart. It definitely still makes HH the best time to hunt, but ideally makes non-HH not feel as worthless as perceived by most.

Your idea to distribute event drops was also on this list, and had support from various staff members. I hope we see it implemented in some way, as like this, it is a big step in the right direction towards a more balanced play experience regarding hunting.

  5. It is a lot, but it is truly the going rate. I sold 10+ dark weapons in the last 8 months for 300 DTs each.

Pissing off the biggest community in a "dead game" probably isn't the smartest or best route.

This is not the biggest PSO community. It’s quite a significant amount smaller than the largest.

  6. Man this is kind of a fun topic if we're going through history!

I guess I could start from the very beginning perhaps?

I would like to show appreciation to @jcgamer for finding me in the lobby of Schthack in 2011 and literally recruiting me to Ultima. From there I almost never looked back to Schthack (I have played there very little since, mostly on the Game Cube and in a much different capacity than I was in 2011).

Following that I would sorta learn some of the starter quests which back in the day was really just MA4DMD and Path to Salvation from @Redstar Hunter  around 2012 or so.

From there it's a bit of a grey memory space but I recall spending lots of game time with French pals @Vazerty and @hyosuke and British folk @MASSBLADE and his brother @ExOh who all sorta showed me what it meant to "grind" in this game.

At some point probably in 2014 I met @fatboyand @Sylph777 who at the time felt like the best players I had ever seen and that sort of turned the corner for me to get interested in the time attack aspect of this game. There were also some really good players for the time @Whoopin @squish @Riot- who even though there was a lot of "drama" did also bring out some competitive edge.

    There's some more grey time in here from like 2016 to 2018 where I played a lot in a hunting / collection capacity with @Shoutgu @Lemon @Yannv @Starlord @Ford522 @HUNTER_ @rashan0121 and probably a few other cats I am forgetting. @mudkipzjm

Then a flip switched in 2018 to where Phantasy Star meant something very different to me than it did before. I essentially gave this game up in the leveling up / gearing / hunting aspect and have been that way since. There's a good handful of people that I will double tag that really pushed me in this manner. Firstly @Shoutgu for showing me that there's a whole upper echelon of players that existed outside of Ultima that were skillful beyond what I could conceive at the time and then teaching me how to play like that. Then there's @HUNTER_ who even today still 2Ps with me and was a part of this original journey. @Starlord again was a part of this original journey and completed the 4P group that I would still prefer to TA with on Ultima if given the chance.

To this day on Ultima @R-78 and @JupiterDeMars are the best competition around. I will likely remember the back and forth with them for the rest of my life. They've certainly pushed me to do things on this server that I never would have without.

I cannot conclude this without mentioning the new modern day grinders who have taken some small delves into TA @Crank @777 @(Jay) and that collective crew.

Also thanks @Ender for joining us in some of the better 4P runs done on this server. If only we could practice more.

@Soly I don't really need to say much about this, I will be forever grateful I met him here and he knows the deal.

There's a lot of players I probably should have tagged because I've had positive and meaningful interactions with so many people over the years. It's been like 12 years almost on Ultima so I am destined to have forgotten many.

  7. Now do the 100h CVulc calc! 1/x,xxx,xxx for sure!

Adding another little bit to this to let you guys know how to actually calculate how a rare item drops from an enemy (Excluding PDs as those are rare rolls on tools and not an RDR check).

First you need to know what the DAR of an enemy is. Let's use a Sorcerer from Ep2 in Spaceship as an example. Let's pretend there's a drop from them and the drop rate for that rare item from said enemy is 1/1137. Here is how you calculate it and it's very easy to do. Assuming there is no drop boosts, you need to form a cross multiplication formula followed by a divider. Ep2 Sorcerers have a DAR (Drop Anything Rate) of 25%. You take 25% and you stick it over 100 to get 25/100. You then take the rate you see on the drop table and stick it into the denominator (Bottom value) of the second fraction which would be X/1137. X in the fraction is the RDR (Rare Drop Rate) of the enemy.

So you end up with: 25/100 & X/1137. Multiply 25 (Numerator) by 1137 (Denominator) and then divide by 100. Thus, you learn that a rare drop that is 1/1137 from an Ep2 Sorcerer yields a 1/4 DAR and a 1/284.25 RDR. It just happens that the rate you see on the drop table is the math of those values in calculation.

This concludes the PSO lesson. Good day.

An armor with poor EDK would be bad in most @R-78 quests, for instance, unless it provided such huge boosts so that the armor would then be ridiculously OP.

Going back to the topic. To be useful, such an armor would need to have resses close to STA

You can definitely play around having low / no resists. It's what normal PSO players have to do lol. It's a normal part of game play to be aware of your surroundings and prioritize monsters that could potentially Megid you. On Ultima it doesn't happen because STA obviously, but every other version of PSO that's how it's played.

If there really was an armor that was +0 all resists, +0 DFP / EVP , +150 ATP, +30 ATA, and a built in Centurion / Battle I would probably never wear STA again.

  9. On the topic of new armors, a new all class frame that's on the opposite spectrum of STA that provides little to no defensive (EVP / DFP / Resists) bonuses, but rather an offensive package. Could have built in Centurion/Battle, or +xxx ATP and +xx ATA, or a set bonus with some really critical offensive weapons (can be for weapons across all 3 classes). The armor package on Ultima is pretty stale and has been for years. RA / HU it's pretty much STA or bust. HUcaseal has Sue's Coat, but it doesn't really make her any better compared to the classes above her. FO sort of is stuck to STA as well since nuking is quite rare on Ultima and everyone just plays battle FO wearing STA lol.

An armor like this could add a whole new dynamic to Ultima. As a server most of us are used to walking around being ~invincible to all elemental attacks, and even ATP based attacks. This is not typically the case on other versions of PSO where in order to play even "smoothly" you have to be at least mildly aware of your surrounding enemies and in game objects as to not die. An armor of this style could give at least the option (not niche either) for the user to pick between a hyper offensive style of play or a more modest style.

I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with how good your laptop/computer is. I experienced no problem with my old computer that is now over 9 years old. But with my new one, which is better as well, I get frame drops like yours and worse too. I even get it in ep 4 sub deserts without anyone else in the room just standing in the big maze-like room

Pretty much any particles will make people lag. Think the fireballs in your maze. Merissas using techs, if anyone in your party is casting spells with particles.

A few have appeared who say that this does not happen to them, and I really don't know, maybe it's a game thing.

It definitely doesn’t happen to everyone, but lots of computers are prone to this. Being new and updated doesn’t really help.

  12. PSO doesn't actually care necessarily how good your computer is. PSO allegedly actually runs smoother (there's videos of a battle mode player that consistently could move frames faster than counterparts on "modern" machines) on era accurate machines. There's something about emulating old DirectX calls in the processor that is rather taxing regardless the machine. @Soly can be a bit more technical I am sure.
