  1. They've got all sorts of altered models. I have no idea about replacements vs. new. If you load into Forest 1 on a normal mode you'll see that it really doesn't even look like PSO. You fight some enemy called a Dora. For all I know though yeah they could just be replacements. In regards to those just being mags that already in the game then I don't see why we couldn't get some reskinned Chao mag on Ultima that have new color palettes. Maybe not quite as neat as the ones that are designed in the main post, but would be no problem to make new skins for the one currently in the game and give it triple invincibility with 55% or whatever. If anyone wants to play with it, it uses texture 338.
  2. Someone over on Destiny knows something we don't. The Twin Sato is a very old mag that was on Schthack back in the day, but I don't recognize either of the other two mags and if I didn't know any better that thing on the left pretty much looks exactly like what you've posted. I don't know which of their developers is responsible for this creation (my guess is shiva), but clearly they know something about this process. They've done a fuck load of object modeling beyond what any of other servers have done. I would check in with their developmental team. It's been historically very hard to get them to share literally anything that they may know about the game, but it's worth a shot. Worst case we know it's possible. Not sure what tools you're looking for, but I am sure they're all still available if you name drop them.
  3. Most S-Ranks outside of the Zalure / Jellen ones have been outclassed heavily by other custom weapons. I don't think there's any pathway to recovering them at this point. Type SH/Shot at it's peak has 100 more ATA than an S-Rank Shot. Things like Arrest Needle have up to 135 more ATA than their S-Rank counterpart. Nearly all the useful S-Ranks that once were have been left behind. Hell / Arrest J-Cutter, Hell / Demon Shot, Arrest Needle (S-Rank), Demon Mechgun, and so on.
  4. The only thing that bothered me as of recently is nnorton revealing the high school I graduated from to everyone without asking me about it. I don't get offended too much by typing and certainly don't complain about being offended. I am thankful that yan has wrote a nice column about me, but I definitely wasn't offended. He may have meant that users shouldn't be TRYING to offend? I can't speak for him. I will say that I changed my name because of a package I received from someone on the forums actually fulling doxxing me when I was a full blown kid. Facebook hacked as well. Which is the only reason nnorton playing around with info like that bothers me. It's true that I went out of my way to get all 11 Max Attack: Area quests from Ephinea to share with Ultima. I also had asked Ender to use the initial 9 Sweep Up quests. I believe there's other quests as well like The Military Strikes Back and Passion of the Blacksmith. I certainly had no part in making these quests and credit to those who did. They were out for quite some time and never brought to Ultima until I had asked. That's at least 20+ quests though. It certainly could've been done by another person, but it wasn't and there was plenty of opportunity / time to get it done. The discord "remodel" was also largely done by me and Yan. It's been a long time since it happened and my memory long term isn't the best. Me, yan, and Soly organized it and gave it the nice roles and all that so it could have the potential to be more interactive. The idea started with me though. Again my memory is a bit hazy and the last new item I remember working on was Ganondorf Shield and there were some prior to that as well. Designing weapons and items in general isn't really hard anyway. I don't take much pride in that. There's also developmental work that occurs outside of Ultima for exploratory purposes usually (sometimes utility for TA too) that I often am in some way involved with. Sometimes it's just by association that things are shared with me or because I paid money or because I asked the right people the right questions. While some of this stuff isn't always totally applicable things like the DMC patch could see the light of day on Ultima. Certain niche tools and various methods of things with qedit. Knickknacks, and of course intellectually I typically have little no role in the actual creation, but am often still shared the product. It's sometimes hard to see the "work" done for Ultima by any of the moderators because a lot of it just happens without much noise and there really isn't much work to begin with being done as of recently. I've never claimed to be bothered by not being paid either. The DAR thing recently that changed was something that I've been extremely vocal about in the staff channel for a very long time and it's finally starting to go the direction that it should be. I don't know why I am having to vet my contributions here really, but okay.
  5. I don't need to see the results of this poll to know where it would be going. I personally don't mind stepping down (or being removed). There's very few things I do for Ultima as a server that can't be replaced. Any knucklehead can start HH or do redeems. I will always work with Ultima when it comes to getting quests shared. Don't need to be a moderator to do that. Same for any other pieces of PSO "tech" such as a DMC patch or early walk patch. Any player can give their input when it comes to systems like DAR scaling for PSO2 drops and stuff like that. Me having a green name or not has no bearing on my ability to share things or give input on the game. I guess this is buried in the post, but I will work with Soly to make sure my name goes back to yellow and GM account closed properly. This is something that has honestly been on my mind for some time regardless of this poll. It's clear that the most vocal group of Ultima doesn't care for me. I don't gain literally anything from being a moderator and most of everything I do can be replaced and I don't need to be a moderator to do some of the stuff I do. This won't change anything about me just like getting the green name didn't. I won't be acting any "nicer". My opinions won't change. I was member of the server for like 7 years before getting it and will remain just that without it. This is a very accurate post. I've never been "nice". I don't know why that would change. I'd also like to point out Rendlan that you sought out conversation with me on Discord. Asked me to add you. You messaged me. I had no reason to be speaking with you. I am sorry that it didn't go the way you thought it would go lol. Also I don't get what this recent couple people being scared of me banning them is about. The only people who I have ever sought to ban or give any punitive actions to are people who were caught cheating in game. I don't believe in banning over verbal altercations. Not something to fear for. It's no secret that most of you don't like me, and that's okay. I never asked for any of you to like me and honestly I don't keep hard feelings about who "likes" me or who doesn't. As far as me being fully banned... That's just silly lol. I have never given nnorton any personal information about myself. He went out of his way to reveal personal info about me in a public space without asking me. It's true that it's not hard to find stuff about me if you know where to look, but that doesn't mean any of us should be posting about personal matters without consent. I used to have my facebook and real name linked with this website and had both the facebook untied as it was hacked and my real name changed to Saber +7 because I had received a weird package in the mail from someone on the server. (If you don't think any of that is weird just because who it happened to... then lol) You just admitted in the shoutbox that you were being hostile yesterday... not sure what else to say about that. Everyone here has said they wished larva was more active... Mentioning another server is not the same thing as promoting. I don't think I have ever invited anyone or told someone from here that they should just play Ephinea. I disliked your event post because you didn't take the time to make it clear and concise. "Likely 4PM GMT which should make it around noon in the US (I think?)" The very first line you included uncertainty.
  6. I play on pretty much every server. I have accounts with gear across all the big servers. I won't reply anymore, but you guys can keep wondering why the server is "dying" (I actually think it's okay for the most part it's just not really attracting much of the "new" crowd) and look back to this to see how you take advice / opinions about how to improve. It will answer all the questions about why people are flocking elsewhere lol. Good luck fellas.
  7. If you guys continue to be off topic and spam I'm going to lock what was otherwise a good post. People are having real discourse here. I am sorry that some of the opinions hurt your feelings, but please don't derail the post.
  8. Removing the shoutbox is not banning veteran players from being able to joke with their friends. It's keeping that off topic stuff off the front page of a PSO website. Again I just point to Ephinea as a place that's clearly more successful at the moment that's already done it. I am not bitter about not personally being included in any of the "jokes". The only reason I care about them is because I think they're actively detrimental to Ultima due to the location of them.
  9. I mean what do you have to say for a concrete example of a more active community that's already deleted it? When I say don't become Ephinea the context is within the game of PSOBB itself. I figured that was obvious, but in case you couldn't figure that out...
  10. This is unintuitive. It's like asking what we could do better when "better" is right in front of us just because we don't want to follow another persons foot steps. Current Schthack Blue Burst is a dumpster fire though. Nothing to compare to there. It should've stayed dead after Chronos. I don't think anyone is saying straight up become Ephinea. People just want a lot of what they have going on there (hbr, year-round drops, normal monster / class stats). Ultima really should've been the one to fill the role of Schthack after it passed away and for awhile it did. Schthack as I mentioned before was the best blend so far of custom PSO with "vanilla" PSO. Ultima has gone a bit far off the tracks of what the typical PSO player wants (again this can be seen by the population numbers, as I write this there's 16 on Ultima and 73 on Ephinea). This number is incorrect by a factor of at least 4. A year or two ago we had a debate about how many unique players play PSO weekly among the most popular places (Scht gamecube, Ephinea, and Ultima). The number came out to about 1.5k not even including Destiny, Schthack BB, Kaz GC, Eden BB (dead anyway), any of the Dream Cast variants as well as Sylverant GC. Something you guys have to realize though about "ideas" and things is that Soly is VERY busy. He has a real life. I won't speak too much for him, but he doesn't get to work on Ultima pretty much ever unless it's a pertinent bug fix. I am glad someone is willing to verbally agree. Ephinea seemingly has removed their shoutbox all together and at this point I think that would be good for Ultima too. Pretty much nothing related to PSO ever goes on in there and unless you're one of the like 10-20 people familiar with the extremely stupid inside jokes it literally looks like robots or little kids. In regards to the baranz thing r-78 if you're actually hunting then you don't play that last part of your quest. You reset like a sane person.
  11. I partially agree with his disagreement of the initial assessment. Ultima had / has been lower than it currently seems to be. There's no denying Ultima is no longer it's peak in terms of population, but it's been rebounding slightly. It's nice to see, but that's just the natural flow of PSO. A lot players quit and return on repeat. This I disagree with. As I am writing this Ephinea has 70 players online to Ultimas 20. While it is surprising to see Ultima with 20 players it's pretty clear that the version of PSO that Ultima has put out is simply not the version of PSO the average player wants to experience (speaking in totality of PSO not just Ultima). It's obviously possible for a given server to have numbers similar to a few years ago as Ephinea is literally doing it now. The peak of PSO private servers was some late 2000s early 2010s Schthack. It will simply never return to those levels. It is what it is. Ultima "needs" a lot of different things to bring it back to where it's reasonably comparable to Ephinea. Here's a few things that I think would really improve the experience Ultima provides: -Getting rid of buffs. I understand for whatever reason that you guys specifically here seem to like it, but as indicated by the comparative populations that's simply not what PSO players want. It's arbitrary and I'd even say dumb. -Rework DTs in some way. No one ever wants to hear something crazy like B> Dark Meteor (an item that's not even supposed to really be good) 450 USD. It's stupid. DTs have too many functions that only they can consistently do. They need to have an in game equivalent or have some of the usefulness taken away. Plain and simple. -Ephinea events suck too (imo), but Ultima events create these extreme cycles of boom / bust because nearly nothing relevant drops in the "off-season". There's actually some good arguments for this system being okay at best, but clearly people want to be able hunt the purposeful items year round. I won't propose specifics here of what exactly a system should look like, but people should be able to gear themselves without paying money at any time during the year. -Ultima game play has a weird middle ground where Dark Meteor HHH is strong / simple / fast enough to clear pretty much everything without switching weapons or using your brain, but HUcast is still mostly superior if used right. The issue is is DM is just too simple so players don't attempt to learn engaging game play and just HHH their way through the game. That shit is not engaging and it's lame. If you log into Ephinea it's mostly HUcast around the clock and a fair mix of RAs / FOs. I don't know exactly how to fix this without "ruining" Dark Meteor, but again it's clearly not what the average PSO player is interested in or Ultima would have 70 players on spamming HHH right now and Ephinea would have 20 players on actually switching weapons. -While it can be cool to push the limits of what is possible within a quest Ultima has a lot of quests that are simply too much monster count wise. This ruins hunt variety. Ephinea attempts to keep their quests in check with Sega quests monster count wise to some degree so that people aren't spamming only one quest that's too broken. I had never played or at least don't remember playing Intelligent Defense System until some time earlier this year. The quest is "cool" in that it's definitely very different from some of the more modest custom quests and Sega quests, but it's monster count makes it silly. There's no reason to ever hunt Baranz anywhere else. It pretty much insures that you get whatever a Baranz may be dropping while also ruining other quests for the Baranz hunt. There's more examples of this. I feel like this is yet another subject I could write forever about, but I think these few things mark some of the biggest reasons why people clearly prefer another server at the moment. In my eyes the version of PSO that was the most popular was probably also the best. The quests weren't super wild, the monsters weren't buffed, the classes weren't buffed, but there were still new quests and new items to spice things up without completely changing how PSOBB is.
  12. Right off the rip I feel like this is a bit of a backwards way to think. The "ideal" arsenal is probably never going to be synonymous with "minimum inventory space". Again this is something different. Nearly every quest is going to have a different inventory for "min/max" gameplay. Going to preface this by saying everything below is specifically in regards to HUcast, but some of it is still applicable to RAcast. I pretty much rebuild my inventory every quest and so do other min/max players because it just makes sense to only bring the items you're actually going to use on the given quest. You're not going to encounter many quests that have the exact same "min/max" inventory. With that in mind here is how I typically go about picking my inventory: first I consider the quest and what it contains, such as, Tower only having enemies that concern with machine / dark or maybe it's something longer like Max Attack 1C or Cal's Clock Challenge that both need all 4 attributes, after that I decide bring the set(s) relevant to the creatures. Typically in episode 1 you'd use native / abeast + hit and machine / dark + hit sets because that's the order of the areas in all the longer E1 quests so you don't have to mix your swaps. An example of an inventory for a longer quest or one with more than 2 attributes this one being particularly for Max Attack 4C in 4P No-PB: DARK FLOW [0/100/0/100|100] Raygun +15 [Berserk] [100/0/0/100|100] VJAYA +15 [Charge] [0/100/0/100|100] Slicer of Vengeance [0/100/0/100|100] Serene Swan +80 [0/100/0/100|100] LAVIS BLADE [0/0/0/0|0] TSUMIKIRI J-SWORD +50 [0/100/0/100|0] Boomerang +80 [100/0/0/100|100] Morolian Blaster+15 [100/0/0/100|100] TypeME/Mechgun +30 [100/0/0/100|100] [Charge] EXCALIBUR [Berserk] [100/0/0/0|100] Slicer of Vengeance [100/100/0/0|100] VJAYA +15 [Charge] [100/100/0/0|100] DARK FLOW [100/100/0/0|100] An example of a shorter inventory for say something like Max: Ruins in 4P No-PB is: DARK FLOW [0/0/100/100|100] Raygun +15 [Berserk] [0/0/100/100|100] VJAYA +15 [Charge] [0/0/100/100|100] Slicer of Vengeance [0/0/100/100|100] Serene Swan +80 [0/0/100/100|100] LAVIS BLADE [0/0/0/0|0] EXCALIBUR [Berserk] [100/0/0/0|100] TypeME/Mechgun +30 [100/0/0/100|100] [Berserk] This is 6 less weapons than the previous inventory but ~ideal for the quest. From these two examples you could probably get an idea of ~how an inventory would look on a given quest based on the creatures within it. Some general things to consider when crafting inventories is that your weapon order does not really matter so long as it is comfortable for you and doesn't impede your gameplay (important since we are supposed to be discussing in the context of min/max). I personally avoid Hell at all costs because chances are if you're in a multiplayer setting it's going to slow the run down. Raw damage is almost always going to clear waves faster and more consistently than Hell would. It's a similar story for Demons except the options for Demons are a little more busted so Demon Yasminkov can get a pass sometimes. There's a lot of utility weapons so deciding which are useful for a quest is a good way to shave inventory space. The most common utility weapon would probably be Twin Blaze and is something someone in the party should almost always be carrying. I could probably write 10+ pages on this topic, but I will leave it at this basic level for now unless someone wants to hear more lol.
  13. Buffs are bad, regardless of the results of this poll Morfos should stay where they are or reverted to proper.
  14. Ok since no one cares apparently I’ll bid the 1 pd lol
  15. I think there’s a misunderstanding. He bought both an SQ and FS.
  16. That's just what I was offered? Not sure what you think they should be.
  17. I hate to totally derail this topic but I LOVE your profile picture. Standard during RtR was so legit. Supreme Verdict into Sphinx's Revelation was nuts. Not quite 3x, 2.47x though.
  18. Sad to see you go, I totally understand some of your reasonings. I myself find myself playing almost all versions of PSO except for Dreamcast really (it's just not good). Give it some time and enjoy the vanilla meta, but Ultima will still be here. There's things I love about both (I could write forever about this so I'll just leave it at that) metas and they're obviously very different. Good luck finding that trade though. It's pretty much a non-existent market.
  19. It's a reward for completing Power Plant Plight, an EP2 custom quest in CCA that ends with Gal Gryphon. It's a fun and short quest.
  20. If any of these items are unfamiliar the wiki should give a good enough idea. I’d prioritize Cent/Battle and Serene Swan set. Pretty much can clear every quest with that alone. https://www.phantasystaronline.net/forum/index.php?/wiki/items/ Edit: I'd also like to say that PSO isn't necessarily a strict "BiS" game. It's pretty rare for people to use that term on this game because there's many different options and most spawns have different "BiS" solutions compared to the ones before or after. There's absolutely still a group of items that are the best, but that doesn't mean they're the best everywhere. That's something that has to be evaluated spawn by spawn in each quest. Weapons: -Serene Swan -Dark Flow -Vjaya -Slicer of Vengeance -Some form of Vulcan (charge / berserk Vulcan, vises, type me, or whatever) -Daylight Scar -Excalibur These would be your main damage weapons and you pretty much can’t go wrong with any of them. Utility Weapons: -Twin Blaze -Morolian Blaster -TJS -Boomerang -Kiss of Death -Asteron Striker -Zalure Handgun -S-Reds Blade -Ultima Reaper There’s more of these utility type weapons but learning twin blaze stuff will make every quest easier. The rest of this crap you can just get whenever. Armor: Sonic Team Armor D-Parts Shield: Ylvis Costume Kasami Bracer Black Ring units: Cent/Battle Smartlink Cent/Arm Cure/status V502 Cent/Body You’d be mostly capable of fully optimal combat with all these items. A lot of the utility ones can wait.
  21. Surely it's not extraordinary. I agree. This game mostly isn't hard, yet there's not many players that compare even within the scene. I think most players COULD climb to where I am if they wanted to. I really haven't talked about "internals" of quests because that's not what the question asks from the original post (from my perspective anyway) and that's not where I feel experienced. I personally don't care about the internals of a quest so long as it functions. That's just me as a player though. I don't think about the internals when evaluating quests because like I said it doesn't really have to impact the quality of the quest in relation to gameplay so long as it's not totally fucked. I also never said that a quest being speed-runnable is what made it good. My initial post pretty much only talks about the composition of the enemies because in my eyes that's the major contributing factor to the quality of the quest. I didn't really touch much about qedit / pw and still won't because that's not what I am talking about. Also in regards to that last bit... I don't know how much you play public games, but if you did play them frequently across literally any server you'd know the majority of players don't know even their favorite quests down to the tee and play silly relative to TA standards. I don't think most people are discussing quest internals here. I certainly am not and I think most players here are talking about the content inside the playable quest as I said before. In fact looking over the whole thread I think you're really the only person to interpret this as a discussion about the internals of the quest. I surely don't have any releases for quests. I never claimed to be a quest designer (as in my original post here lol), but to think I know nothing of qedit is silly. I've spent a fair share of time on it. I used to use it to study spawns and have made things for testing purposes until phantasmal world came out and now we use that mostly. I don't really have much else to say on this bit. Shiidas quest are not for me. She's not the only one though. There's other quests I don't like. Endless Nightmare #1 ( even relative to other forest quests. sega btw) is garbage, Max Attack S 1/4 are pretty bad (rika), PTS, Fragments of Memory, and some others. If you think that's insulting I don't know what to tell you. I don't think the spawns are fun. All user relative. I don't know where you get the "right to judge" from, but everyone is entitled to their opinions lol. "Across all servers people will use what's best" I don't think you could be more wrong. I think TA pretty much proves what's actually "best" and it's very rare to see players outside of the scene perform that way on any server. Players use what's easiest typically (especially on Ultima where Dark Meteor is double buffed). You swap mid comment to "best" to "best for them" when that's almost always factually something different. Any quest that is cleared with mostly only one item will be lame to me. It doesn't matter if it's Dark Meteor or Dark Flow. I absolutely hate PW4 because for the most part it's just DF one thing after another after another floor to floor until the end. A good quest should have diversity in patterns that allow for multiple solutions. I think that all makes sense.
