  17. sorry for the necropost but this seriously needs a well deserved BUMP! New things to add: HOW TO PROPERLY TRADE, AND/OR AVOID SCAMS WHILE YOU'RE AT IT. Ok so you found a really good weapon but just isn't your thing? sure trading is a great option to make the best of valuable items you won't ever get a chance to use out of dislike or simply not being use-able by you. however attempting to trade nowadays is not as simple as 1-2-3.... given the lack of scams lately players must be more precautious of who they trade with and how to do it therefore I'm adding a brief guide on how to pull off a successful trade and how to do it as safely as possible (btw to the fellow readers, if you have any ideas you can share to reinforce trade ideas, feel free to post them after the more you know the better) PRE-TRADING tips: before you head over to the trade itself you might want to see what you're getting yourself into... trading items in a way is a compromise and these tips help you get a good start: 1.- Know your clients and vice-versa: Alright then, seems you have an item to trade... you must find yourself someone who's interested in your fine selection of items, remember if this is your first attempt at a trade, it is wise to trade with friends and close people you may know, after all trading involves trust, who better to trust than friends you know? 2.- Appearances matter: When you seek a trading partner contrary to popular netiquette your level and trading material DOES matter! after all there's more chances customers will believe you if you're a higher level selling an excal, dark flow etc... than being a lv.1 selling the same items, even more you could get easily mistaken by a scammer! if you plan to sell items make sure to look as good as what you sell. 3.- Know what your items are worth: You have no idea how irritating it can be for a player to offer an item without knowing what it's worth as both over and underpricing can happen, even more is when the player says "I dunno... what's your offer?" if you plan to sell an item try to have an idea of what to expect in return, saves time and effort. 4.- Use the trading-specialized part of the forum: You know there IS a reason we made that one section here... sure you can advertise a trade or 2 in-game but don't expect people to magically be attracted instantly by your offer.... if you plan in selling various items making a tradelist helps a lot, brings more interested people and you can keep track of their offers. 5.- Reach an agreement or BAIL! Before we can move to the trade itself you gotta make sure your client agrees to the trade,if the client is very shady or keeps getting 2nd thoughts and/or cold feet it might be wise to pull the plug and bail. What NOT to do in the PRE-TRADE process: Ok so now that you know how the pre-trade process works it would be wise to learn what NOT to do here as well, a word of warning if the following sentences describe how you manage your pre-trades you're better off seriously reconsidering your approach or you might end being banned! - Spamming offers randomly: Ok so apparently you're not getting clients? well for starters spamming in-game your offers 24/7 won't help at all and even worse it's annoying and can get you muted, have you tried the forum tradelists? go on then! git! - Being downright rude: sometimes when your idea of a good trade never happens or didn't happen as you'd expect it, it CAN get disappointing but remember not to rage... it's not like all trades go perfectly, raging does not help at all, calling other players idiots will most likely get you a mute. -Meseta, meseta, meseta: I'll be honest here.... I've met people who DEMANDED trades with meseta.... and all I can say here is LOL.... for starters meseta has afaik 3 common uses, 1, regular item shopping, 2,quest payment and 3 (my favorite) weapon ammo XD the good seller knows currency is nowadays photon drops (PD's) and that meseta is simply too common to have almost any trade value (especially when customers demand rares for meseta LMAO) MID-TRADING tips!: It's the moment you've been itching for.... it's time to go for the trade! however like I stated before this isn't as simple as 1-2-3 as it was before.... nowadays with scammers you have to take every precaution method you can, trust me it's for your good and so you can avoid the "being helpless" situation some players can get themselves into... 1.- Agree on a trade meeting. You got an interested customer? that's great, now in order to seal the deal you better ask him when to do the trade, this way you can avoid waiting for the player to randomly enter your room, if you're a good player and you're following my guide (kudos to you btw..) also tell your customer the room pass because... 2.- ALWAYS lock your trading room! If you're serious about a trade, this is one of the few golden rules of trading items! make a room for you and your client only, nobody in-between, this is VERY important because there is always some A$$hole waiting for traders to drop their loot and go for the items and run for it, better safe than sorry! 3.- Pictures and Logbook! THIS is the second, last and probably most important golden rule in trading! just because your customer is interested in your items does not necessarily mean he or she has or is willing to part with its items therefore in case of scam attempts you need to have as many evidence as you can at your disposal that such items DID belong to you... for this you got 2 handy tools, the PRINTSCREEN key and the log files in the PSO game folder, basically any item you wish to trade it's always a good idea to keep a screenshot of it... (one with it's stats is most preferable) and in a mag's case one pic with it's overall stats is needed basically in case of losing an item to a scammer does involve a player showing evidence... these screenshots go a LONG way trust me, also you have the log files located in the PSO folder as well... they can reinforce that you indeed had that item 4.- The drop ordeal: Alright basically this is to avoid the "I don't trust you, you drop first" comments... it is common courtesy for the person who started the trade and made the room to drop first... of course if you've been a good player and read my tips you pics and log got you covered in a worst-case-scenario, once you drop, then have the other player drop, basically take turns. 5.- End your transaction in style Now that you got what you wanted and vice-versa it's always nice to say thanks for the trade, believe me this gives a nice lasting impression of you. What NOT to do MID-TRADE! and when I REALLY mean not it is because you WILL most likely end banned! Title says it all hot-stuff... pulling one of these crazy stunts will not only earn you the hatred of players, a bad reputation etc... it will most likely get you banned sooner or later... so if I were you I'd take some time to read this... - Ninja Looting: If by any chance you're simply spectating a trade because the other 2 never got to lock the room in time,.... just spectate at most... grabbing the items they dropped with the intentions to trade and then DC-ing or running away WILL get you banned. - The old switcheroo If player A agreed to trade his X item for Y of your items then stick to THAT trade! just because all rares come in red boxes doesn't mean you can fool others, doing this is also ban-able... especially if you dropped a single PD and making a break for it... - Making a break for it or ("oops I accidentally disconnected with your item and left nothing behind!") When it comes to the "no you drop first!" argument before most likely has this as a follow up... if your trade partner drops his item and you grab it and disconnect you're probably gonna think "Oh i'm so l33t I got a free item from that n00b LOLOLOLOLOL" etc... well you got another thing coming to you... a nice shiny ban you ignorant twit! there's always some idiot who belive he or she can get away with sheer item theft... silly scammers GM's are always on the lookout - Leaving your room open / overconfidence: Ok... so maybe you can't get banned for this but it is still downright stupid to avoid safety measures like the lock, log and pics... basically this places you in "THE HELPLESS PLAYER" situation... in which if you get scammed out of an item and have no proof whatsoever there is little to nothing a GM can do for you.... and in most cases will get you a well-deserved "I told you so" POST-TRADING tips: Ok so if your trade went successful then there is no reason you should keep reading this,,, POST-TRADE tips are for players who in the end DID get scammed and teaches you what to do (and expect) afterwards. 1.- First and foremost... make a post. There is a good reason why we got a crime stoppers section on the forums, so that unlucky players that got scammed can attempt to find and deliver justice... remember when making a topic describe as good as you can what happened... do NOT rage use an excessive amount of caps lock or downright lose it... make sure to include your log ONLY with the trade comments and pictures.... like they say... "pics or it didn't happen" 2.- seek a GM, Yes you should seek a GM and tell him what happened (and possibly) tell him about your post... do NOT expect a GM to return your items on-spot... but at least you now know a GM is looking at your case. 3.- COMMON SENSE! In the case of ever getting your item back and all... remember these tips and next time put them to use! these were made to avoid scams and whatnot after all.... What NOT to do in the POST-TRADE: Alright so your item got stolen and what not... the guide already did its best to warn you about the dangers of reckless trading... but in the end if you ARE wondering how can you possibly screw up post-trade... well honestly there is only 1 thing: - Keeping quiet about it. If you got scammed and don't know what to do... seek help the worst you could possibly do at the moment would be to keep quiet about it and have that scammer on the loose! after all its your item and you have the right to post about these things.... in overall keeping quiet means you yield to jerks like the scammer and whatnot... always comment irregularities. and that's about it really.... Doesn't take a genius to figure these out,,, it simply goes down to simple common sense... I hope you new players ever get to read this before it gets buried again... and lastly Im still sorry for the necro-post but this is as relevant as it gets!
