I would say it depends on the intentions, probe the motivations of your heart and just ask yourself why tell the truth : if the truth is designed to swell your pride and your ego and just to prove to others that you'right, or with intent to hurt voluntary then you should abstain, if you do it by love to protect people and save them from a difficult situation, then your goal is noble and you should always tell the truth, no matter the price you would paid
