dudeimjohn
So I experience a problem where sometimes 5 minutes sometimes 15 minutes into my gaming (just enough time to get into a lobby, or start a quest etc) the game will force close. There are no pop-ups and no error codes. I have checked my error log and it is empty. I run the game as admin every time, and have ensured that my AV (Webroot) does not block it. Currently psobw.exe, psobb.exe, option.exe, and online.exe are all listed as 'allow' with my AV. It happens pretty often but seems random when it occurs. I have been able to game for sometimes 30minutes to an hour, but usually once it happens for the first time, any attempt to restart is killed by the same issue happening in a much shorter time. This is a recurring thing even after a new install (in fact it was even a fresh windows install). With each installation of PSO, I have also had to go into windows settings and set the DEP stuff, so all .exe's in the PSO file are listed under that setting for windows. Any other ideas? Really sucks not being able to finish quests with friends or play consistently =( Quote Link to comment
Saber +7
Go to options and change the resolution to something smaller and run as admin Quote Link to comment
Cyane
Do you have anything that obscures your game happen (like asking permissions to open something and the screen goes a bit darker?). Try to lower the game settings a bit to check if it's caused by that. Does it happen joining rooms or just doing random things? Quote Link to comment
Soly
The resolution affects at start up... I have never seen issues in game... but as cyane said... if you have UAC (User Account Control) enabled to dim your desktop... it will crash pso... but as he said, he doesn't get any messages, with a UAC crash you get some weird text in a pop up... This is weird Quote Link to comment
dudeimjohn
I currently have it as windowed mode 800 x 600, so not the lowest, but second lowest, and graphics are 'high end'. I guess I could try for a while on the one res down and normal graphics? (though my computers hardware alone should have no issues running this)And yeah I run as admin. And Cyane, it never any prompts for anything, nor darkens the screen or anything like that. Tends to be random. Earlier today it was right after Ult drag in TTF, and then when I tried to rejoin friends it was immediately after getting in to room.Seems to be random, as yesterday it was during govt quests.Stopped playing for the day, so I will update you guys after I have made changes and see if I still have the issue. chuk
Do you use any custom skins? Do you have the latest version of the game? You can try a reinstall to make sure. Do you use a controller pad to play the game? Has this been happening since the moment you started playing or is it a more recent problem? If the latter, do you remember installing any new soft/hardware on your computer? Quote Link to comment
dudeimjohn
No custom skins.I'll assume it's the latest version since I just re-installed it like last week.I do use a 360 wired controller to play.As far as frequency, it is kinda on and off. When I first started playing like a couple months ago it would happen on occasion, then it didn't happen for a while, and now it's happening again?Haven't really been able to test it much today as I keep getting kicked from the roll back stuff, so just waiting in out until later this evening. dudeimjohn
So tried playing again last night and today, and I am still getting the same issue. I reduced the res to lowest, and quality to normal instead of high, and I did 'colour depth' at 16 instead of 32.Game is still force closing with no errors, and no notifications. I guess I will try re-installing, once again, just to see if it makes a difference. Any other ideas after that though? Quote Link to comment
dudeimjohn
Ok, so before re-installing, I tried to run the uninstaller, and it wouldn't work, and since there had been so many issues, I figured the best way would be to remove all files, and then go into registry and manually remove any entries for PSO.Just went into regedit and looked for anything with Sonic in the name. They all seemed to be under folders "Software" > "Sonic" and sometimes with sonic + other words.Anyway, I cleared all info regarding PSO and did a fresh install after clearing registry. Then proceeded to setup everything exactly as I had previously (turn on DEP, allow through antivirus etc).Just finished a roughly 3-4 hour gaming session with 0 random crashes. Wonder if it was just registry issues messing it up, and uninstalling-reinstalling wasn't enough?Guess only time will tell. Quote Link to comment
dudeimjohn
Definitely still crashes randomly. Dunno why it worked so well on the 18th, but tried on 19th and today, and random crashes sometimes before entering room, and sometimes shortly after starting quests...This makes me sad.
