There is a story mode in ep1 you need to make a single player game for this it is the walkthrough on the game . To open more quests in single player you will have to play multiplayer Government quests you find these at the captains quarters on ep1. I like to do EP4 single player Pioneer spirit you get 2 NPC (Ash and Rupika ) joining you this can be a effective way to level a bit quicker as exp is more.

This will be on forum and has been said many times before , once you do a solo story quest they will lock un till all completed . To open more tiers of solo player story , you have to do Government quests in multiplayer up to at least mines. Once these requirements are met you will then be able to re do any story mission after in solo play . Most of us would only complete a few in order to open up dr osto mission and will not complete mission so it does not lock , this way we can convert our enemy parts without finishing it all

I will elaborate a bit more on this , if you S'rank with a Character first time the B and A rank prize God Shield's are not given and a Bug S'rank is. Which will Disconnect you as soon as dropped traded or banked. The Shields can still be obtained but only by NOT completing the s'rank time first go. Hope this helps a bit more
