If PSO returns to the xbox...

So I have been in many forums, and had this conversation many times with current & former xbox PSO fans.

If PSO were to come back to the original xbox would you start playing again?

We have BB/DC/GC/PSP/DS/360 and soon PSO2, but does that mean we have to forget about the original xbox release?

A few other websites have made it possible for you to access all the previous PSO titles on their online servers, which allows you to play online once again. Sadly because of the Xbox Live the Xbox version of PSO cannot run online anymore, and has made it very hard for other fans to attempt anything. (Thank God for offline mode)

If someone were to start a project, with enough backing would you support their efforts to make this game playable again online.

PSO episodes 1 and 2 was amazing, and the XBL feature made it more enjoyable. If it did come back it would not be through sega but instead a fan based community.

I'm all for PSO2, but it may be free to play but does it have an offline feature for when the plug gets pulled?

I'm not into handhelds like PS vita, and PSO sucks on PC plan and simple......PSO was a console born game not PC, and its followers aren't liking the no xbox polices w/ the new release.

A kickstarter project might be starting soon to fix the original xbox problem with PSO, and I hope it gets off the ground

this is what i think.

pso1 was made to play on a pc its better with the hotbar for FOs to cast magic then having to use the shitty tech window, and cus pso sucks soo much ass and u cant add techs to weapons like PSU it will always suck to use a controller with a FO. and pso1 would do fine on the XBLA for "15$-1200MP" and it would could have all the stupid offline and online modes.

and PSO2 is sooo good it can stand up to almost all the action MMO out atm. the gameplay is nice, the graphics are the bomb, its free to play, and the way the game is it can be updated with new quest and all the good stuff with out a problem. pso1 was alive for a bit after it died in the USA so i dout pso2 will ever die. the pso2 beta was the best PC game i even played

and if they do put pso2 on the xbox360 or the "next gen" xbox it would live forever "look at psu"

just have all the fans of PSO1 send sega of japan mail about putting pso on xbla

sadly no one on this forums cares for what i have to say, so small font WFT

phantasy star episode 1 and 2 for the original xbox is by far 10 times better, and is still play offline even till this day.

Yes i also did beta for PSO2, and the customization is amazing....I could not deal with the Japanese since I missed the small english patch,

But I am not talking about PSO2 (which I have high hopes for)

Talking about phantasy star episode 1 and 2 for the original xbox, and bringing it back online.....

As a phantasy star episode 1 and 2 veteran I can tell you the game play by far was better then the GC/BB/DC release and the voice chat put it ahead of them w/ xbl help. (server was up more, and gameplay was at a record high)

You can cling onto your PC all you want, but you can never replace a video game console and its fan base community.

But I'm being a loose cannon right now which I apologize for, and I respect your opinion...

Why I prefer local multiplayer, and playing cards at a table to playing ANY game online

(March 4, 2012 by EvilZeroraven)

I enjoy online games to an extent so don't think i'm writing this to hate on the concept or the reality in this case. Online gaming is becoming the norm in games and while I like the option I dislike the fact that more and more games are removing local options. It's what games are having less and less of these days are options. Just five years or so ago almost every game with multiplayer offered splitscreen or same screen play and even on Xbox 360 every one of them had system link play. The fact that even system link is fading into history is a cause for concern IMO. Me and my brother still love to buy two copies of games so we can play in the same room but the fact that we have to make sure they have a damn system link option is just stupid...

Games right off the top of my head that I would still play to this day due to the local play options are as follows

Phantasy Star Online (Gamecube)

Mario Kart Games (Nintendo systems)

Time Splitters 2 (Gamecube)

Goldeneye (N64)

ANY Halo game (Xbox systems)

Star Wars Battlefront 1 & 2 (Xbox)

Like I said, off the top of my head those are some games i'd play at this very moment if anyone I know personally suggested them. What's going to happen to your future games such as Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and Revelations? Or how about Battlefield Bad Company 1& 2 or Battlefield 3? Those games will literally die in due time when the servers are shut down and you'll likely NEVER get to play those games like you once did again. Sure, playing splitscreen can be an aggravating experience sometimes with screen lookers, smaller screens, and having to have multiple controllers but is it so bad having the option?

The Wii U could solve some of these issues with it's impressive tech allowing everyone their own screen. No one is positive how many controllers can be connected though so there's that or atleast I don't. The 3DS could even be used as a controller and stream the game onto it's screens as well. I'm not even sure I want a Wii U because the name is lame and I wasn't too fond of the Wii but the fact that it could single handily allow a "revolution" in local gaming has me intrigued. You could say that the PsVita and PS3 allow the same thing but it's a very pricey endeavor where as if we all bought Wii U's for instance we would all have our own controllers to take to friend's houses and game it up.

Most of the time when I play an online game I just hear douche bags blabbing about how some player sucks or how some guy is a (Enter Racial Slur here). It just gets tiring listening to these people. Sure I could mute them but sometimes you need to know what people are saying and may even need to communicate to have a good strategy. In a local game for instance with people around me no one would dare say any of the things you hear from random strangers online and if they did say something of the sort i'd personally punch them in the face or atleast verbally confront them face to face and not be some pussy behind a microphone.

People get this big headed ego when no one can confront them in person. I highly doubt any of these people who tell everyone dirty things, call girls sluts, or call people of a different color a racist word would EVER say that to these people's faces. It's just cowardly and one of my main reasons for not playing online in games unless i'm with friends. I just can't stand to hear these blabbing idiots go on and on. Sadly it's not only these "13" year olds people speak of as it's adults and older teenagers that do it as well and overall it's just sad....

The fact that most modern games won't even be complete in the future is sad. Why add all these multiplayers in games when they'll be down in the next ten years and I won't be able to even play a local match or even a bot match? That's why I love my older games and hate to get rid of them because I know I can always get alot of time out of those games with friends where as with games like Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, Battlefield games, and various other multiplayer heavy games they'll just be a dust of their former self. Who the HELL wants to play Battlefield 3's singleplayer only in ten years? I guess you could say that the companies could just "re-release" them in the future but that's bullshit because games like Phantasy Star Online on Gamecube live long and prosper because of a little thing called "Local Play"

So F&%K Modern Multiplayer!

These are the reasons i'd rather play cards at a table instead of in an online game so to speak

This is the 1st IGN article (I took out one of the YouTube Clips so it could fit):

On April 15, 2003 Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 and 2 was released for the original Xbox, but where is it now? On April 22nd, 2008 Sega pulled the plug on PSOs online community, but had originally planned for it to end on the 30th. Fans can be found now playing the PSU, GC, BB, DC, PSP, DS, and PSO2 beta release like nothing had happened. The veterans who played on the original Xbox have never forgotten, and the blow they received will forever remain in their minds as a terrible nightmare.

Over time fan based servers started to take root online, and the PSO community once again started to thrive or so they were lead to believe. Websites like SCHTServ were having problems attempting to create servers for the original xbox, and started to give up hope at a fast rate.

To much time had past within the PSO community, and not many followers wanted to continue the Xbox legacy. Xbox emulators started to become more popular, and hope for the return of PSO on the Xbox grew even more. Websites like XBConnect and Xlink Kai were able to access system link features to play on the original xbox, but sadly had difficulties with the PSO. Imagine the possibilities if PSO could be fixed with a simple adjustment or have the proper professionals take a look underneath the hood.

Sega has reveled to the public that they have no future plans in returning the Xbox servers back on, but their is an online movement called "PSOR" (Phantasy Star Online Resurrection) who are exploring all available options to bring back PSO. The path set ahead of them is very narrow, and with fans coming out of the wood work slowly they might get somewhere in time. However Sega & Microsoft neither endorse or facilitate PSOR, and are turning a blind eye like they always do. This can't be helped since PSO2 will be launching soon, and will be free to play online.

The future for PSO has already been picked up by PSOR, and a kickstarter project in the near future has been discussed. However this kickstarter project by PSOR will not continue if the fan support can't be met, and because this project is fan driven it becomes an all or nothing gamble.

If you would like to support PSOR or would like to know more about about their project please visit their forum & Twitter Page:

still dont see the problem of just porting the dam game to XBLA

I'm not sure I follow when you say porting...?

PSO is not backwards capable on the xbox360, and on the original xbox the PSO does not have a system link like halo so you can't use XBConnect to play online through LAN connections.

i have nothing against it returning to xbox, but whats the point? i dont understand how you can say its worse on PC when its exactly the same as far as i can tell. i have had the DC,GC,xbox and PC versions and they were all pretty much the same, the only difference being the quests n stuff but that can be implemented in the PC version easily.

personally i prefer a controller for this game so right now i use my 360 controller to play but you can get original xbox controllers on usb if you want.

maybe i just didn't notice it so what does the old xbox version have that the PC version doesn't?

just want to say i love how passionate you seem about the game, it's good to see people still appreciate a masterpiece like PSO!

Thank you, yes I am very passionate about the xbox release :)

Apart from being the only console to have headset capabilities before the xbox360, the xbox version was the first MMORPG for the original xbox & was released before WOW.

Being the only version of PSO left which had headphone capabilities was rare, and PSU was a different game pretty much all together,

Its nostalgia to even talking about it, but it's hard to explain the difference in why it's better then the other versions...

Mostly it does not feel right that these other version still have online capabilities and have been left out of the online community :(
