Hey topwing here is another noob tip when you are fighting monsters do as much damage as you can from the doorway then run back in the door and wait for the enemies to go back to their starting point make sure to repeat the process it's something that I do regularly

This is one of the slowest ways to play that will make all runs you’re in cumbersome. Don’t do this lol

Is that something newer on the server I started playing in 2010 and I took years off from ultima that is so annoying makes me want to rethink playing here

I used to notice that during certain moments monsters would be in different places for your teammates

No, it’s always been on Ultima. It’s probably honestly better than it was in 2010 due to upgraded host quality and slightly cleaner code.

Enemies can “desync” and be in different places and doing different animations on different clients. This is present on EVERY form of PSO.

I never had this much trouble with DMC on Diablo 2(actually any at all), even with 8 players attacking the same enemy.  It makes me think it just comes down to a programming issue

I wouldn’t even bother comparing the two games in this way. Damage cancel  is an intended “feature” to a degree. It’s just a little fucked up on Ultima.

  4. 1 hour ago, jespence said:

What does that mean? Is this another annoying bug?

DMC is short for "damage cancel". It happens on all version of PSO to some degree all the way back to the GameCube version (I am not familiar enough with Dreamcast V1 / V2 to talk about those versions) and is related to the way the server receives incoming damage packets from the client(s). While not a bug, there's varying degrees of intensity of DMC among the existing servers. I personally use GameCube as a metric for what it's supposed to feel like. However Ultima has the worst DMC of all the servers I have played on to the point where you could call it a bug. It's completely nullified on Ultima when more than one person attacks the same enemy and it's beyond annoying.

Pretty much every combat action can cause DMC on Ultima. Normal, hard, and special attacks, traps, techs including Zalure / Jellen. There's solutions for this that for one reason or another haven't been implemented on Ultima. There will always be some limitations when it comes to a "DMC patch" (as it's called on Unseen / Ephinea) such as two players starting a Charge Vulcan combo at nearly the exact same time. Some amount of damage in that situation will be cancelled on those servers, but not whole combos like here. I can't speak too much for the Ephinea DMC patch, but it's probably nearly as good as the Unseen patch that doesn't have damage cancel on traps, techs (including Jellen / Zalure), and instead of actually canceling attacks that are done at the exact same time it just accepts the higher damage numbers and cancels who ever is weaker, but if the attacks are staggered at pretty much any time interval it will accept both damage sources. This is a little more robust than the way GameCube works, but GameCube pretty much just has restrictions of waiting the slightest bit of time between these actions to avoid cancelling damage. However, it's a lot easier to "wait" that time there because characters move slower (walk before run) as well as attack slower (25% attack speed boost only)

  5. IronSheiks comment is probably the most in-depth on how to get your character in the position to be better, and in general become more comfortable with the environment that is Ultima. I'd definitely recommend reading his comment in full.

Almost all these posts are about weapons / gear, but not actually about how to play better. A little can carry you a long lay way on Ultima. Wade alluded to that with this comment.

You can get a serene swan now through this event. You can beat this whole game with that. Actually I can give u one free.

Ultima for starters does not have a viable One-Player Mode so playing alone here is something meant more for people that are geared / experienced / familiar. It's a bit of a handicap on early player development especially if you're starting from square one (which is totally fine).

If you could get your hands on a simple pair of Charge Vulcans / Charge Raygun and Frozen Shooter you could mostly play to the same level as some of these lads regardless of your materials and other stuff if you know how to PLAY. I've first hand witnessed players that have all the fancy end game gear play so bad that runs would legitimately be faster if they just AFK'd or left. Gear is not the end all be all of PSO gameplay and especially not until you're trying to become "competitive".

It takes a long time to get familiar and comfortable with PSO, its monsters, and it's quests because there's so many of them and they all have their own nuances and little details. It can be really hard to describe certain things over text, but I will do my best. As you branch out from TTF and start playing quests with other people if you start paying really close attention to how monsters behave (movement, attack patterns, spawn animations) and which monsters in which quests need to be killed / handled before other monsters you can really propel your gameplay from bad / decent / good  to superior. As simple as PSO seems if you take the time to "critically" think about the quests you chose to play and which parts are giving you or parties you're in struggles you'll find that there's going to be almost always be a variety of ways to break individual spawns down to a level that you can handle. One of the nice parts of PSO is that each individual quest (almost all of them) the enemies are set in stone meaning they will spawn the same way every time you play a given quest and just memorizing that and knowing where to stand based off that to either be safe or in position to attack will separate you from beginner type game play.

I think this is sorta long enough as is, but if you ever have particular questions about combat in PSO or just want to know more in general feel free to say so either here or PM. There's websites that are gold mines for the fundamentals of combat of PSO that I can refer you to and quite literally 1000s of videos to refer to about cleaning your game play up and understanding the core combat of this game regardless of your gear / level.

Edit: Something I'll add that in general applies to almost all quests is that controlling spawns is key. There's a lot of ways to do this. I am sure you're already familiar with Freeze Traps and specials like Blizzard and Arrest. These are tools you can employ all throughout the game on practically every spawn to break them down to become more favorable for you and your party. Once a spawn or set of spawns starts moving and entering attack animations and things like that there's potential for "disastrous" (it's just PSO so worst case you virtually die and reset lol) things to happen.

    The Problem(s)

    1. S-Rank weapons see very little use outside of Zalure. S-ranks weapons cannot have hit or attributes because the data that would be used to store these values is instead used to store the custom name of the weapon. This makes them very cool, but unfortunately severely outclassed* by Type weapons, which can have hit and attributes. For example, nobody uses an S-Rank Shot because TypeSH/Shot can have 80 more ATA, making it the clear choice for Hell and Demons, where the only important stat is ATA. The result of this is that Naka cards aren't all that useful beyond the first 3.

*Technically S-Rank weapons have higher ATP and grind than Type weapons, but nobody really uses them for their damage since there are better options. An argument could be made for an S-Rank Sword, since it has 700 ATP, but this is not the topic for that discussion.

I feel like what you mean to say here is that because S-Ranks are outclassed that people aren't playing 1/3 (depends on how you view multi-mode and one-player mode) of the games available modes. It's totally fine that new weapons outclass S-Ranks. It's not fine that this in turn renders Challenge Mode useless.

    The Problem(s)

    2. There are very few useful needles in the game (and to a lesser extent, piercing launchers). There is Arrest Needle, Zalure Launcher, Outlaw Star (I guess....) and that's it. I think that weapon diversity is a good thing for any server, especially for weapons as unique as needles and piercing launchers. For example, Hell Needle and Blizzard Needle would be very cool, but the lack of hit makes the ATA too low to be effective on EP2 on the server (and they still aren't the best on EP1 and EP4).

This isn't really relevant, but Blizzard Needle is not something that is used in the regular PSO. I agree in general that Needle weapons are generally neglected, but that's because there's no Type version of them. I think this is a very easy fix.

    The Problem(s)

    3. Soul Booster is a combination item that currently only has 1 use. It would be nice to breathe new life into this item and give players more reason to hunt it.

I don't really think this is as you say among "3 major ones". Soul Booster would likely be the next combiner used for an item, but Ultimas issues are not related to lack of items in any way.

    2 hours ago, Smoochum said:

    The Solution

Introduce two new items into the game: SS Needle and SS Launcher.** The stats would be identical to S-Rank weapons, with the exception that they would be able to have attributes and hit added. The exact method to create these remains tbd, but the basic idea is that they would be made using 3 Naka cards and a Soul Booster. This would likely require a GM to redeem in order to preserve the special on the base weapon, and could just as easily be done in one step instead of redeeming for an S-Rank and then for an SS-Rank. Sorry @R-78 😅

**Why only Needle and Launcher? There is no Type equivalent for these weapons. Other weapons have plenty of options available already and introducing new items that make existing items obsolete is generally a bad idea. Additionally, every new weapon needs to be created and added to the game.

If you have a better suggestion for the name than SS Needle / SS Launcher, post it in the replies.

I don't think this is a necessarily a good solution. Launchers sort of suck so I'm not going to even address this.

There could definitely be a new Needle introduced to the game that's in the exact same vein as say Type SH/Shot relative to the S-Rank Shot. Same ATA, but you can add whatever special and hit with DTs. It could just be a standard drop somewhere outside of MotV and IDS as those are way busted for hunting. Ideally it would replace some regular no event drop because those tables are boring as hell and offer nearly nothing. Anything relating a GM redeeming for you is zzz.

None of Ultimas issues are directly related to the lack of items. Ultima has A LOT of weapons / items. An optimal Ultima inventory pretty much has no weapons in common with that of a vanilla or GC inventory.

The issues are the core systems related to gameplay and I agree that Challenge Mode serving no function is one of them. Changing the rewards is not too hard and is something I think should definitely be looked into. It's really hard to say what because in vanilla play CM adds an insane amount of replayability due to how the rewards function within Gallons Shop and the fact PDs are a little harder to come by. If Challenge Mode S-Rank clear times were made like 2 or 3 hours harder and allowed you to add hit to your weapons in 5 hit increments then it'd probably be more played than Normal Mode during non-events. This would be cool to me and also add a partial fix to the issue with DTs.

this is even posible? a visual bug?

That's correct. The server and your client were having some sort of desync  in which your client thought a scape doll was occupying a space in your inventory that in actuality according to the server was your Lindcray. Sometimes (almost always) you can fix this yourself by changing blocks and sorting your inventory.

Do you have a timestamp for the video? Not interested in watching ten minutes of it.

Even though we use LK pretty consistently used throughout the run sure I will timestamp it during this run and perhaps a couple others. I don't want to link the probably 50+ runs of LK use that exist so here's a few. In longer runs on Vanilla and pre-Serene Swan it is common to carry a full set of LKs.

If you start here you'll see a few spawns of LK use in the next minute or so.

If you start here you'll see some LK and throughout the whole run.

    Again we use it here.

Whilst it may come up in TA, I've not seen anyone use it in normal gameplay in all the time I've been playing PSO. When locked, it's outclassed by almost any other long range weapon. .

It's a lot more common on Ephinea because they don't have Serene Swan, but before Serene Swan only a few of us from Chosen Few were using it on Ultima as you see in these videos. In terms of TA it's sort of a new thing (last 4ish years or so) because no one thought to use it because it requires really high hit to be any decent. That's obviously not an issue on Ultima. Even when locked it's often times the best ranged weapon available (before Swan).

    21 minutes ago, Harvest said:

I'd also point out my idea was using a combo item on an L&K, meaning the original would still be in the game to use however you wanted. It honestly annoys me that most of the arguments people make were addressed in the numerous posts I've made about the item. People just look at it as "hurr durr unlock the L&K because it'd be awesome LOLOL".

Ah well then that's cool if people really want to hunt a combiner for a 1 ATP 1 ATA Rafoie gun I don't see the harm really (feels like a wasted opportunity imo, but whatever). It's been some time since I've read any posts relating to the exact specifics of your idea, so sorry if you're having to repeat yourself.

As I've been saying I am not for or against the idea as at this point. Serene Swan is probably just better. All the same to me.

  10. 4 hours ago, R-78 said:

In fact, that is actually a good reason to make it.

I am not sure about that. First perhaps the use of the weapon as is should be evaluated?

    4 hours ago, R-78 said:

Now that we have Serene Swan, it would not hurt to have an unlocked L&K38 with 1 ATP, 1 ATA (and eventually forbidden to Hucasts) as well.

This would actually be nerfing it??? I know the weapon doesn't see much use here now cause Serene Swan, but before Serene Swan a hit LK was / is essentially a ranged DF. It had uses in nearly every quest and was a staple of a TA inventory. Depending on your Shifta level it's capable of 1H tons of different enemies across all 3 episodes from quite a solid range.

Is ruining what once was and technically what it still is for a shitty rafoie minigun really worth it? I think not. If people were to want a LK that can shoot Falz it should be a new weapon that doesn't completely ruin the actual use of LK.

You can see how LK COULD be used in team play. Even though Ultima does now have better options if it were to ever be utilized in this method it'd be 100000000000000000000000000000000x better than a Rafoie gun. There's nothing actually stopping it from being used as displayed in the video either.

What are your thoughts on Destiny then 😂

Some of the stuff they’ve got is admittedly really cool. There was a time when I thought they were pretty cool as a whole. Now I feel like they’ve gone too far off the path of what PSO feels like to me.

Additionally they’re thieves and generally I don’t trust their staff seeing as Broomop (convicted cyber criminal) and Mylandra (partially responsible for a summer of DDoSing and gore porn spamming on Ultima) are listed as developers.

They’ve pretty much changed Destiny to be something not PSO and I’m no longer a fan of the gameplay.

While SS would probably outclass unlocked LK38 in typical play, I can see a huge benefit of it being used against Falz invincible mode. I firmly believe that by giving different weapons certain use-case advantages, it adds diversity to the game.

I agree sort of. That’s a pretty niche case and I’m sure it’d be worth carrying for that (maybe?). I’d like to point out that Ultima already has INSANE weapon diversity.

HUcast inventory for example I already roll around with 2 Dark Flows, 2 Vjayas, 2 Diska of Bravemen / Slicer of Vengeance, 2 Serene Swans, 1 Psycho Raven, 1 Type ME/Mechgun, 1 Twin Blaze, 1 Lavis Blade and then I have 1 of Asteron Striker / Morolian Blaster and 1 of Kiss of Death / Boomerang.

That’s 14 weapons and there’s really still room for more because I don’t carry around a full PR set like I probably should. No Zal Gun or S-Reds either. No Excalibur (typically). No TJS, Bombchu, Crush Cannon, Daylight Scar, Fury of the Beast, Ten Year Blades, Black King Bar or any of the other weapons that I could be carrying.

That’s enough to literally have a 30/30 inventory of just weapons. It’s true I could slim down and not carry sets but I’d have to visit the bank a lot more.

Mind you that Armor / Shield / Units / Mag is an additional 7 inventory spaces that you pretty much must have. Then there’s consumables which I typically carry at the least Dimate, Trimate, Sol / Moon Atomizer, and Telepipes. Another 5 slots for a total of 12 slots for non-weapons. I happen to also keep V502 in my inventory because there’s places to swap to it in most quests. 13 slots for me before getting to weapons.

TLDR: There’s already a lot of weapons.

Still advocating for this fine gentleman and his wondrous L&K campaign

Also while you're at it, if y'all could just make techs not completely useless in 66% of the content, that'd be great

At this point I don't think LK would be better than any of the other options. Whether it were to happen or not it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of play. If I’m honest it’s would be yet another tool that makes hucast even better than the other classes. I’m surprised y’all are interested in that.

I think it's really time to revisit the idea of quests being available in One-Player Mode. It would give a place for people to play alone if they were to want to. Additionally that's a space where techs are not just viable, but usually dominant compared to other options. It's not exactly a "fix" to making techs stronger in the current landscape, but giving them a space where they do excel. On this same topic I think techs would feel a lot less bad if the DMC was a bit more manageable (DMC patch is something that could very well happen).

Techs already have some pretty crazy boost items here on Ultima. I think a lot of the time when people feel they are being unusually weak with techs it's because they're casting Rafoie on a FOmarl wearing Sonic Team Armor and a Red Ring. If players were to match the proper enemies with the proper elements along with the proper frames / shields I think they'd often find themselves feeling stronger.

There's not really a good guide on this or a place to look I think (especially not one related to specifically Ultima). Perhaps someone could make something like that so people could have an easy space to see what enemies are weak to what techs and a few different combinations of gear to achieve a high tech boost for that particular tech or type of tech.

Was thinking along the lines of Gal Giel, or maybe poison status type of depletion.

There's a whole type of game play to be unlocked if it were to drain say 87.5% or greater of total HP. Black Ring is one of those untapped items that can drastically change the way people play while providing a worthwhile benefit. This would be could potentially be very similar.

There was an idea that @C01D1 and I were thinking about for another dark weapon...a saber that has high ATP, equippable by all classes... One aspect of that is if it is used with Gal Giel, it gives a bonus 30 ATA. Makes Gal Giel a bit more than just a status symbol.

Sounds like Excalibur + Proof of Saint Sword lol (exactly the same). Excalibur and Hundred Souls are already VERY good weapons with 900 and 1000 ATP respectively. They both combo kill a lot of enemies very consistently while having one of the best animations in the game. I think there's other directions to go.

Gael Giel can't ever be more than a status symbol until it's triggers are changed (something I'd like to see).

Gives insane stats but depletes the health of all your teammates if you get close because of that stench. Extra points for using the fart symbol chat.

"Depletes", how much did you have in mind?

Ultima actually kind of has a plethora of armors including one that essentially makes you invincible. This same thing can sort of be said for shields / weapons.

What ideas do people have for mags and units?

Mags are a sorta tough category cause unless the custom mag has triple invincibility with at least base 50% activation rates they just get cast aside. Making any one mag the pinnacle of mags by giving it 60% triggers and all invincibility would almost totally ruin mag diversity.

What about units though. Ultima does sort of have a lot of custom units but most of them are Centurion / X that are clear and straight forward progressions along the path Sega designed for those type of units. Perhaps there's something cool that isn't too broken worth adding?

Even though it's totally OP and probably shouldn't exist... a unit that was the natural progression of V101 that included 110% attack speed would be bonkers. Although State / Maintenance isn't a new item it is still pretty different from any of the custom units that are on Ultima. Maybe there's other things to look into though. Maybe units that add +x range to equipped weapon. Who knows.

The 'dark chao' mag on the left is a reskinned regular Chao mag. The mag on the right is a reskinned Naga except two of them, similar to Twin Sato.

I know they have some sonic theme for an event and a 'new enemy' using a Robotnik model, but I was under the impression those were model replacements and not new models added into the game. Could be wrong.

They've got all sorts of altered models. I have no idea about replacements vs. new. If you load into Forest 1 on a normal mode you'll see that it really doesn't even look like PSO. You fight some enemy called a Dora. For all I know though yeah they could just be replacements.

In regards to those just being mags that already in the game then I don't see why we couldn't get some reskinned Chao mag on Ultima that have new color palettes. Maybe not quite as neat as the ones that are designed in the main post, but would be no problem to make new skins for the one currently in the game and give it triple invincibility with 55% or whatever.

If anyone wants to play with it, it uses texture 338.

  17.

Someone over on Destiny knows something we don't.  The  Twin Sato is a very old mag that was on Schthack back in the day, but I don't recognize either of the other two mags and if I didn't know any better that thing on the left pretty much looks exactly like what you've posted. I don't know which of their developers is responsible for this creation (my guess is shiva), but clearly they know something about this process. They've done a fuck load of object modeling beyond what any of other servers have done. I would check in with their developmental team. It's been historically very hard to get them to share literally anything that they may know about the game, but it's worth a shot. Worst case we know it's possible.

  18. Most S-Ranks outside of the Zalure / Jellen ones have been outclassed heavily by other custom weapons. I don't think there's any pathway to recovering them at this point. Type SH/Shot at it's peak has 100 more ATA than an S-Rank Shot. Things like Arrest Needle have up to 135 more ATA than their S-Rank counterpart. Nearly all the useful S-Ranks that once were have been left behind. Hell / Arrest J-Cutter, Hell / Demon Shot, Arrest Needle (S-Rank), Demon Mechgun, and so on.

Didn't realise it was against server rules to "offend a staff member". Maybe people in a position of responsibility need thicker skins?

I would love some citation for this, because I just don't believe it. At all.

What's actually changed because of him? We have generally less players, no new items that he's had a hand in designing... what does he do?

The only thing that bothered me as of recently is nnorton revealing the high school I graduated from to everyone without asking me about it. I don't get offended too much by typing and certainly don't complain about being offended. I am thankful that yan has wrote a nice column about me, but I definitely wasn't offended. He may have meant that users shouldn't be TRYING to offend? I can't speak for him. I will say that I changed my name because of a package I received from someone on the forums actually fulling doxxing me when I was a full blown kid. Facebook hacked as well. Which is the only reason nnorton playing around with info like that bothers me.

It's true that I went out of my way to get all 11 Max Attack: Area quests from Ephinea to share with Ultima. I also had asked Ender to use the initial 9 Sweep Up quests. I believe there's other quests as well like The Military Strikes Back and Passion of the Blacksmith. I certainly had no part in making these quests and credit to those who did. They were out for quite some time and never brought to Ultima until I had asked. That's at least 20+ quests though. It certainly could've been done by another person, but it wasn't and there was plenty of opportunity / time to get it done.

The discord "remodel" was also largely done by me and Yan. It's been a long time since it happened and my memory long term isn't the best. Me, yan, and Soly organized it and gave it the nice roles and all that so it could have the potential to be more interactive. The idea started with me though.

Again my memory is a bit hazy and the last new item I remember working on was Ganondorf Shield and there were some prior to that as well. Designing weapons and items in general isn't really hard anyway. I don't take much pride in that.

There's also developmental work that occurs outside of Ultima for exploratory purposes usually (sometimes utility for TA too) that I often am in some way involved with. Sometimes it's just by association that things are shared with me or because I paid money or because I asked the right people the right questions. While some of this stuff isn't always totally applicable things like the DMC patch could see the light of day on Ultima. Certain niche tools and various methods of things with qedit. Knickknacks, and of course intellectually I typically have little no role in the actual creation, but am often still shared the product.

It's sometimes hard to see the "work" done for Ultima by any of the moderators because a lot of it just happens without much noise and there really isn't much work to begin with being done as of recently. I've never claimed to be bothered by not being paid either.

The DAR thing recently that changed was something that I've been extremely vocal about in the staff channel for a very long time and it's finally starting to go the direction that it should be.

I don't know why I am having to vet my contributions here really, but okay.

  20. I don't need to see the results of this poll to know where it would be going. I personally don't mind stepping down (or being removed). There's very few things I do for Ultima as a server that can't be replaced. Any knucklehead can start HH or do redeems.

I will always work with Ultima when it comes to getting quests shared. Don't need to be a moderator to do that. Same for any other pieces of PSO "tech" such as a DMC patch or early walk patch. Any player can give their input when it comes to systems like DAR scaling for PSO2 drops and stuff like that. Me having a green name or not has no bearing on my ability to share things or give input on the game.

I guess this is buried in the post, but I will work with Soly to make sure my name goes back to yellow and GM account closed properly. This is something that has honestly been on my mind for some time regardless of this poll. It's clear that the most vocal group of Ultima doesn't care for me. I don't gain literally anything from being a moderator and most of everything I do can be replaced and I don't need to be a moderator to do some of the stuff I do.

This won't change anything about me just like getting the green name didn't. I won't be acting any "nicer". My opinions won't change. I was member of the server for like 7 years before getting it and will remain just that without it.

For as long as Wilson has been on this server, he has never not been an asshole.

This is a very accurate post. I've never been "nice". I don't know why that would change.

I'd also like to point out Rendlan that you sought out conversation with me on Discord. Asked me to add you. You messaged me. I had no reason to be speaking with you. I am sorry that it didn't go the way you thought it would go lol.

Also I don't get what this recent couple people being scared of me banning them is about. The only people who I have ever sought to ban or give any punitive actions to are people who were caught cheating in game. I don't believe in banning over verbal altercations. Not something to fear for.

It's no secret that most of you don't like me, and that's okay. I never asked for any of you to like me and honestly I don't keep hard feelings about who "likes" me or who doesn't.

As far as me being fully banned... That's just silly lol.

I will add to @jdhenry124 list of offences:

This is the last 24 hours to give it perspective to what he does on a daily basis

-he accused Norton of doxing him as he stupidly gave out where he went to school before to others

-Said I was chatting hot sh*t as I told him about his attitude

    -Insulted Larva

    -Promoted another server!!

-Disliked an event I made for new players to be malicious (again, I don’t care but it puts new players off!)

I have never given nnorton any personal information about myself. He went out of his way to reveal personal info about me in a public space without asking me. It's true that it's not hard to find stuff about me if you know where to look, but that doesn't mean any of us should be posting about personal matters without consent. I used to have my facebook and real name linked with this website and had both the facebook untied as it was hacked and my real name changed to Saber +7 because I had received a weird package in the mail from someone on the server. (If you don't think any of that is weird just because who it happened to... then lol)

You just admitted in the shoutbox that you were being hostile yesterday... not sure what else to say about that.

Everyone here has said they wished larva was more active...

Mentioning another server is not the same thing as promoting. I don't think I have ever invited anyone or told someone from here that they should just play Ephinea.

I disliked your event post because you didn't take the time to make it clear and concise. "Likely 4PM GMT which should make it around noon in the US (I think?)" The very first line you included uncertainty.
