I think that really is the best way to do it. After all, what something is worth depends on two things only: how valuable the item is to the person buying it, and how valuable the item is to the person selling it. It doesn't matter if the item in question is an Excalibur with 50% Hit or a no-percents DB's Saber; it all comes down to how much someone wants to sell or trade it for, and how much someone will pay or trade to get it.
