I'd love if you could tell me about this, because the launcher I made literally just opens the game like if you double click the psobb executable.
What I think could be happening here is that you don't have the launcher in the same location as the installed game... so the launcher is starting the game with missing files.

If you want to, you can message me on discord (Soly#0637) or in a PM here in the forum.

wait- you made the launcher? well, yeah, sure i could message you on Discord about this. but i think you might actually be right about what could be happening.

there's problably an issue with your launcher and resorted to defaults when it loaded

eh, the game runs fine by just running Ultima PSOBB's executable instead of the standalone launcher. especially since the executable still opens a launcher that actually works. so i might just not use the standalone launcher. i'm just glad I can play the game. PSOBB is pretty interesting but I still haven't found a good way to juggle both PSOBB Ultima and Phantasy Star Universe Clementine.

I'll take note of that. That's a new one for me lol but glad to see you're game works now

I think it might be that my computer is just weird. that and it's a pre-2010 laptop running Windows 10. there's bound to be some weird crap that happens when an old as heck machine is running a more modern OS instead of what it was originally intended to use, right?

  4. it does help, i believe. I've actually finally gotten to play the game with someone last night. they gave me some uh.. attachments for my armor, i guess, two katanas that I can't use yet but those armor attachment things make it so I'm almost able to, and a weapon that immediately made me laugh when i realized it was literally an electric guitar that can be used to bash in the faces of monsters.

  5. last night i got to actually take on my whole little... social anxiety thing by playing with someone else, and big surprise, they actually gave me some really nice gear. they helped show me the ropes of this game and i was getting the hang of the combat. I'm still a bit thrown off by the TP not being restored over time like PP on weapons in PSU, but eh, what can ya do there? unless Force-type characters get access to regenerating TP.

  6. I will admit, that does make sense, though i haven't seen anyone join my rooms when I do play. though I am also only just playing the game in short bursts right now. probably shouldn't be playing the game when I feel like I should take a bit of time to rest and relax. i nearly fell asleep just playing a mission a few minutes ago... though I do also get this vibe that some of the music in the game is capable of making me feel drowsy.

i'll likely log in later to play a few more missions once I'm not feeling tired or drowsy.

  7. So... um... I've never played PSOBB with other people, but I have tried doing missions with a party in PSU over on the Clementine server. though there's a reason I haven't gone simply asking someone to join me... I'm highly nervous when it comes to asking others to join in something, on top of being a general shy person. When I DID play PSU in a party, I constantly felt like I was being carried by other players even when I was the highest level player in the party in that.

Basically, I'm stuck with this mindset of "play solo, don't bother with forming parties or you'll just slow everyone else down." and I wanna try to get out of that, but I still am being walled from just asking someone to join me in-game because of my own... well, social anxiety.

any chance i could get a little advice for trying to overcome my own problems with this stuff? I'm wanting to be able to enjoy an online multiplayer RPG the right way instead of sitting around, doing nothing but playing alone and feeling like a pure loner. I just wanna get rid of this whole social anxiety when playing games online issue.

  8. thanks for the warm welcome. I will admit, I'm very nervous when it comes to actually... y'know... talking to people in online games. most of my life I've only ever played offline games. I would invite my friends but... the problem is none of my friends really play online RPG titles like this. and I'm too nervous to even ask them to try them. On top of that, whenever I AM in a party with other players I start to feel like I'm just slowing the other players down... though that's just in PSU on the Clementine server that I feel that way, but you get the point right? I'm needing to actually try to break out of this mindset of "play solo so you don't make others carry your ass" and I really do want to change that about myself.

I did get the game working though, it wasn't resolution though. i don't know what it was but somehow i fixed it just by fiddling around with my laptop.

  9. Hi, uh, my name's Douglas. I'm gonna be honest here, I've never played the original Phantasy Star Online. my first ever Phantasy Star title was Phantasy Star Universe back on the PS2 before i eventually got the xbox 360 release and more recently jumped to the PC version of that game with the PSU Clementine server. I did play a bit of PSO2 and PSO2NGS, but I have really wanted to try for myself the original PSO. and until I can get the game to boot properly instead of getting itself stuck on a black screen and never loading, I'll likely still have issues just trying to log into the game. also uh, is there a Discord for this server or just the forum?

  10. I'm having a similar issue but for me, it's basically like the game opens up to a black screen, but it refuses to load or even close. I haven't even touched the settings because I didn't wanna risk messing something up. and for some reason I had to shut down my computer (an old laptop from before 2010) just to close the damn game. I did look at the settings and saw it was set to about... I think 640x480 was the resolution setting for me.
