Controller help

Recommended Posts

I've recently reinstalled PSOBB Ultima into my new laptop but I can't configure the controller, at all. But it isn't my controller as it works with the game on my wife's computer.

My question is, where are the controller configuration files stored so I can just copy hers to mine and make it work.

I've tried to map this controller for awhile on mine and it just won't do anything yet her game using my controller perfectly, since I mapped hers a long time ago.

The controller drivers are up to date and work with literally everything else but for some reason, I can't remap them at all in this game.

Where does this game store controller configuration files?

I legitimately do not understand this since the same exact controller works perfectly on my wife's computer on this game.

I don't think the controller settings are stored locally, and it just saves settings for button ids per character and for no controller in particular.

It sounds like maybe there's a different controller/device connected to your laptop that the game is attempting to use instead? There's no controller selection in the game so I think it just defaults to the one that was connected first. Dunno what OS you're using but maybe look at the Set up USB Game Controllers menu or similar, and if there's multiple listed either reconnect them in a different order to get the one you want at the top or just disconnect any other ones on there.

Nothing else at all was plugged in to any of the USB ports. Only this controller has ever been used on my current computer.

The controller works a little on the character select screen, so I know it's being recognized. But when I select a ship and load in to the game, the controller does nothing. None of the buttons work.

That's because the game checks for inputs from all 4 controller slots at main menu and char select (probably because PSOX did this to figure out which controller was being used for offline mode). But once you're logged in, the game uses only the first controller.

So you have some device, maybe not a controller, but something else that the game sees as direct input device 0 for controllers/joysticks. Try disconnecting anything that might be connected that isn't controller, mouse, and the controller. If you have any virtual joysticks or controller emulators, disable them. If they're running as a service, you may need to hard stop the service.

There are some tools that can reorder dinput devices, but I have never used one so I cannot recommend any.

open your device manager look for human interface devices (HID) then find hid controllers. pso is trying to use a different device that was plugged in at some point. forget all of you hid compliant controllers and reconnect the one your trying to use you should be able to use it. as for configuration you can only remap a few button such as l1 and r1 triangle sqaure circle x. you will need antimicro to use the rest like l2 r2

I've tried for days to get this working and no luck. It's either get used to playing with mouse and keyboard or essentially leave the game.

Thinking of just giving away my DTs and account. This makes me incredibly sad.

There is a controller that will automatically work & it has wireless Bluetooth with an adapter piece you can just pop into the controller, well on amazon for just $35.99 (EasySMX X15 PC Controller).

If that isn't helpful you can run PSOBB thru steam and configure any controller (xbox, playstation, switch e.g.) off of that.
