Friend having severe crash issues

My friend is having a really hard time playing-- crashing every time she fires a ranged weapon. I also crashed and the DEP exception fix seemed to fix it for me, but it didn't work at all for her, and furthermore now Ephinia, which she was running fine yesterday, has also broken. I can't find anything that suggests a common fix for if this issue isn't solved by the DEP exception.

Apparently the problem is her malwarebytes firewall, which is resolutely ignoring every exception thrown at it.

For posterity's sake, I will provide the solution here: the firewall was treating the connection to the server when the gun was fired as an *exploit* for some reason. She's gotten Ephinia working again by turning off exploit protection while she's playing it, but what a bizarre case.

 

Since Ephinia and Ultima have the same executable filename, we suspect the firewall got suspicious and blocked them both.

A while back during Christmas I had this same Issue 

I was told It was something to do with Data Exclusion Prevention.

Yeah that's the DEP exception fix I mentioned in the first post. Like I said, turned out to be the firewall-- specifically malwarebytes-- treating a connection as an "exploit" and then threw an absolute fit and would not allow any exceptions for anything with the same file name.
