JUSTICE'S RANGER GUIDE- PART 2

pso1299134855.jpg

Introduction: THE RANGER CLASS

HELLO! I am Justice, the world's biggest RAcast/Ranger fanatic. In the world of Phantasy Star and many other MMO's, I've been playing the role of the ranged class all my life. In PSOBB, Ranger is considered by many to be the most balanced and powerful class type, with considerable adaptability and a useful array of items at their disposal. Rangers play many roles in the party: Status effect spreader, enemy controller, damage dealer, support, and just all around badass.

WAIT A MINUTE THERE MR.JUSTICE... WHY DO YOU CONSIDER THEM THE BEST CLASS? ISN'T THAT JUST AN OPINION!!

Well Captain CAPSLOCK, technically you are right... it is essentially an opinion but I will explain my reasoning. ATA is one of the most important statistics in all of PSO and is the only stat that does not have a material. Rangers have the highest ATA pools, and they won't have a hard time maxing that stat either. Considering their ability to attack from a distance, they are always (if played well) out of harm's way and can easily solo. They are quite decent at meleeing and support as well depending on their class, and as far as androids go, their trap growth and usage is excellent. Mechguns are argueably the best weapons in PSO, and ranger's get the best ones. With access to all the best weapons, the best stats, and being so damn sweet looking... Rangers rule pso!

Now that we've established that Rangers are amazing, let's learn some things about them!

CLASS GUIDE

RANGERSTATS.png

^ This Radar chart represents a comparison of each classes maximum statistics (On Ultima)*

*HP reduced to base at 200 and not max so as not to distort the scale

Hello again my fellow Ranger affectionados, today we will learn about the classes of Ranger, the differences, pros/cons, usage, gears/units, stat maxing and how they rank up!First off however I will say that any class when played well can suceed in the world of PSO. That being said... one must realize that some classes are better than others. Shocking! Yes, this is a fact that we all must embrace when playing our dear MMO. These rankings are not solely opinion... they are grounded upon facts. Anyway, let's start out with some statistic comparisons.

Level 200 Base stats:

1st 2nd 3rd 4th

LUK = 10 for all classes

RAmar:

HP 1520

TP 704

ATP 806

DFP 359

MST 505

ATA 230

EVP 639

Ramarl:

HP 1315

TP 931

ATP 743

DFP 426

MST 732

ATA 216

EVP 798

RAcast:

HP 1964

TP 0

ATP 859

DFP 505

MST 0

ATA 199

EVP 626

RAcaseal:

HP 1890

TP 0

ATP 775

DFP 562

MST 0

ATA 208

EVP 713

Just by looking at the statistic colors here, it should already be painfully obvious what each class excells at.

RAmar: All-Round/ Support

RAmarl: Spellcaster

RAcast: Damage Dealer

RAcaseal: Tank

Justice's Rank of classes:

RAcast

RAmarl

RAmar

RAcaseal

So why? If you look at RAcast's massive HP and ATP, it should be obvious that he is built for parties. His absence of magic power makes him tough to solo with, but often his sheer power in a party with a healer/buffer is matched only by the HUcast! RAmarl is ranked #2 for her insane soloing ability! The RAmar is almost tied with the RAmar but his non-specialization is more of a detriment than a benifactor. However, he's a great alternative to those less skilled enough to operate a RAcast with his resta ability. Resta is needed by rangers but is not essencial... as the key to playing ranger is to not get hit... which is why the TANK stats RAcaseal ranks as the worst ranger.... and possibly the very worst in the game.

In-depth Class analysis and usage

RAcast

-----------------------------------

PROS:

Strongest Ranger class in party (atp by a large margin)

Unique Walking Noise (STOMP STOMP STOMP)

Durible

Best HP stat in the game(2300+!)

Great at Melee

In ult: increased freeze/confuse/hp steal/exp steal +30%

Cannot be slowed by faltz, Paralyzed/poisoned

HP automatically heals itself

Traps/ Trap vision

CONS:

Requires more skill to use over RAmar

Poor at Soloing compared to RAmar/l (ESPECIALLY EP 4) and is very dependant on party

Will miss alot without proper gear/mag

No Magic

Cannot use Virus Armour (can use wedding dress though)

Overview:

There's no hiding it, RAcast is my favourite class in all of PSO and for good reason. I'm not a solo-er, and on a party these guys just decimate anything in their path with Buffs/debuffs. The strongest party is a party with specialists, and RAcast is the damage specialist being the strongest ranger. Freeze traps are your very best friend, making RAcast far less reliant on Frozen Shooter/ Queen. While our HP is the best in the game and our DFP is better than RAmar's by a large margin you still have to battle very carefully, taking care not to get hit as much as you can. This is due to a lack of resta.

Always try to carry 10 Dimates, 1 telepipe (at least) 10 Trimates, 10 Moons 10 Sols and if you aren't too poor... try to carry 10 star Atomizers. These are basically reserve trimates for when you run out. Don't waste them on humans/newmans if you don't have to because they have their own resta.

Some RAcast opt to hold a spare antipara for their human/newman friends but I frown upon this! They should carry antiparalysis/sols, it isn't your job to support since you are dealing the majority of the damage!

RAcasts, while inferior to the humans in this aspect, can solo. It is not impossible! Use all of your traps wisely and group the enemies. Group and Trap then pull out a good spread weapon and kill. This is your basic means of handling large groups of enemies in and out of parties.

USE TRAPS!!!!

I cannot stress this enough! You not using traps is like a RAmarl refusing to use magic. Our ability to instantly spread status effects across the field is a godsend and really supports our party!

Best use of a trap is to set the trap and step a half step or so back behind it, turn around and shoot it to activate it faster. Practice doing this in the first room of a normal TTF until it becomes second nature to you. DO NOT WASTE TRAPS EITHER! Don't use a trap on a group of 2 small enemies if you are in for a long run. Teleporting back to refresh traps will kill your PB meter. (which sucks) This is the same reason why you need to conserve your Mates too. Constantly reteleporting back to town wastes time and meseta and interupts the flow of your party. The walk to the Hospitol is a long way IMO.

Memorize where Healing Rings are in quests/ maps instead. These will fully restore your traps!

Freeze traps are your best bet by far... but the other traps are by no means useless. Confusion traps are always fun since they pit our foes against each other but use them with caution... you need to step further back when attacking a mob of confused enemies... if they are close enough they can still hit you. Damage traps are awesome too! (Especially while you melee) Fire/Damage traps actually hurt the enemies more than you expect (At lvl200 mine usually do a set amount of like 300+ on enemies) an added effect is that enemies will be stunned when these things explode. This is enough to stop a charging Zu or any minion type enemy mid attack. Nuking is a technique I invented where I spam the fire trap button while running through a mob of enemies or standing still. These will explode faster as they chain with each other after the incial delay and spread decent amount of damage across the mob. When ever I go to melee I drop a damage trap, it just became habit to me really. It adds alot of damage, and it usually stuns the enemies fast enough to stop any incial attacks prepped for my entry or gives me enough time to get behind them.

Use traps when fighting Satillite Lizards in Episode 4, if you freeze them you can get behind them fast and still use your guns. Guns WILL still work from behind.

When fighting bosses always make sure to be near a force that can heal you. Don't expect half/mage (RAmarl/Hunewearl) classes to always buff/heal you as their job is to deal damage attacking as well. Same with Fomar/l. If they are meleeing you really shouldn't badger them...

Don't be afraid to remind your party that you need buffs/resta politely. Some newer players don't realize how party dependant racasts are. If they tell you to just use your mates... find a new party. There's nothing worse than dealing with an unhelpful force who wants nothing but to nuke all the enemies with his attack spells and nothing else

OPTIMAL GEAR:

-Shield:

At low levels: Ranger Wall- This adds ever needed ATA and is equiptable at even level 46. Easy to aquire as well, all you have to do is get 300 Gallon points at gallon's shop quest and you will unlock a ??? option when talking to gallon. Then you will be able to buy it.

RED RING! Sure the MST is a waste... but it still gives +20 to every other stat, including ATA! Beyond base too? Just hunt this shield it's the only one you'll ever need. :P It's dropped 1/38 by Dark Faltz ULT white ID. EASY HUNT! (Best quest: TTF/ Path to Salvation)

-Armour:

Black Hound Cuirtass- You're an android so use this sweet android only gear! This subtracts equiptment EVP -200, (not base EVP) but adds 300 DFP. This is great because EVP is a generally useless stat. There's two defense stats, why do you need both? Specialize! And our DFP is already quite high and our EVP is already very low so why not just go to greater extremes?

Electro Frame/DF Field: These armors are good for casts as well, yet they are not as good as black hound. Visually these are way cooler though so I like to use them! Hahaha, NOW UR SEXY... AND BEING SEXY IS HALF THE BATTLE.

-Units: V502, V101

You gotta hunt these! Seriously! 502 2X the activation for hell! Helps paralyze, freeze and confusion as well but we have traps so who cares?

101- Increases your attack speed by 40% and adds 15 to every stat! (1.5 to ata) GET IT

-S parts: These add ATA beyond base. This is good if you have alot of low hit weapons!

Centaurion ability: This you will need on this server because it adds quite a bit to your stats. The max stats have increased by 100 (ata by 10 and evp by 30) so with our 100 mat count, we need all the mats we can get to get those yellow stats.

MAXing RAcast stats:

TO BE ADDED SOON

Advanced: GODcast soloing

If you have access to two computers like I do... there is a way to make RAcast the ultimate solo.

-Create an alternate account with a FOnewearl/ FOmarl (best support classes)

-Get said character to around 120, and have Resta, Shifta/Deband, Jellen/Zalure at level 30 (using technique units if you

-Long on to RAcast and your support on each computer

-Practice walking both characters at the same time

The key here is to focus on one screen, and have that character always be visible on your screen

-Once you've mastered that you can easily solo with racast! Have you racast protect your force and have the force simply stand back and s/d, j/z, and resta when needed. This makes for the ultimate soloing team when you cannot find a decent force to partner with/ just feel like soloing.

For bosses, you can allow your support to die just so you can have a source of buffs/zalature. With the power of a racast on level 30 buffs you wont waste that too many mates (especially if you are skilled at dodging). Just moon the force when you need a buff refresh or near the end of the fight so they van gain exp.

In this way, you are truely a GODcast and the Force will level as an added bonus. (using zal/jell will give them exp as if they fought the enemy!)

I will create a video of me doing this soon. I can actually solo Olga, Faltz, and shamberlain this way (Though it does take a try or two sometimes)

RAmar

---------------------

PROS:

Best ATA of any class in the game

Second best attack power

decent in solo and parties

Shifta/Deband 15

Resta

Basic Spells

Can use 250 Materials

Coolest looking in all of PSO

CONS:

Much weaker than RAcast (outclassed next to a racast in a party with buffs)

Worse at soloing than RAmarl

Low level techniques

No Jellen/Zalure

Doesn't really excell at anything

Poor for Melee

Very overplayed

OVERVIEW:

This class is probably one of the most overplayed and overrated classes in all of PSO history (Much like the HUmar). The only thing that saves the RAmar from the level of mediocrity of the HUmar is his S/D. This class is not a bad class however, and is very solid and safe choice that can do most anything. Versitile is the best way to describe this class. It's really the best class in the game for a new player since they are very easy to play as. With Resta 15, you can heal yourself rather well. The low defense isn't too much of a drawback since you'll be attacking from a distance but you probably should avoid meleeing as much as the RAcast. Your ATA is high, but don't think you won't need ata boosting gear or hit on your weapons. You can solo effectively and play on teams and be very strong. I see RAmar as the middle point between the party powerhouse RAcast and the Solo queen RAmar. In V2 of PSO, these were insanely good since there was no RAmarl... but now, they really have been outclassed. Still easy though. I mean playing RAmar is so easy even a RAcaseal can do it! J/K! =p

Do not chose this class based on his attack spell ability at all. He's by no means the next Harry Potter having only 15, save your TP for restaing yourself or spirit mechs. Gifoie is your friends though as it can hitstun enemies as they spawn etc, racks up damage. Gi/Rabarta can freeze things if you get surrounded... but really use a snowqueen or frozen shooter gets that job done faster. In parties filled with High levels that kill stuff quickly a quick gizonde/rafoie is usually good enough to ensure you get exp. But don't spam your spells, focus on your ATP based attack methods. I shouldn't have to remind you of your poor MST.

Beserk attacks (like Heaven Striker) are alot easier to use over the RAcast as well. (RAmarl is better at using Beserk however)

Really though, the RAmar is pretty basic and easy to play, and doesn't need too too much instuction. But remember just because you CAN do everything... doesn't mean you SHOULD. You can melee as well, but you should probably avoid it. When I see RAmars rushing in blindly with a double saber I'm just liek... NOOB PLZ. U AIN'T NO HUMARZ. If you want to play like that play a humar... (no wait, play a hunter that doesn't suck like a Hucast /Hunewearl). The reason you shouldn't melee apeshit all over the place (aside from the fact that you're RANGER) is because you have the worst defenses out of all the rangers. MR. JUSTICE YOU SAID I WAS WELL -ROUNDED! Well, I lied. Your EVP is way worse than RAmarl, and your DFP is far worse than the androids. This isn't bad for a ranger at all, it just means you shouldn't pretend that you are some sort of anime samurai character and releash your banki kao-ken Gomu gomu fists of kyubi fury all over enemies.

Optimal Gear:

-Shield:

Red Ring/Ranger Wall: (See descriprion under RAcast gear)

-Armour:

Leutienant Mantle: Use this at lower levels... (like 101+) Enables trap sight and has great def/evp.

Virus Armour: This is a rather expensive armour to comeby, costing 80pds and stink frame at galleons shop just to make but it is much better than Aura Field. Aura is your cheap backup if you can't afford this.

-Units: 502,501, Cent Ability

(See RAcast Equip section for details)

ADEPT:

This works alright for RAmars that use Spirit S-rank Mechguns/Vulcans. Adds 20 ATA/ resistances and stats.... so not bad.

Maxing Stats:

COMING SOON

RAmarl

-------------------------

PROS:

Decent attack magic abilities (Isn't crippled in EP 4)

Best at solo in the game

lvl 20 Support spells (INCLUDING JELL/ZAL!)

Able to use Female only gear

Highest EVP of all rangers

Melee potencial given her DEF/EVP + High (de)buffs/resta

Great with Spirit/Beserk Weapons

Independent

Bitchin' attack animations

Can use Clio

250 materials!

CONS:

Worst attack power of all rangers

Less effective in parties with forces (support outclassed)

Frail HP-wise

You know them RAmars will be always be tryina tap that sexy azzzzz

Overview:

What do you get when you cross a force with a ranger? A Fonger! Since that sounds extremely unpleasent we'll call her the RAmarl! RAAAAAAAAMARL! Great for losers with no friends or you badass lone wolf types. She's definately a raging feminist, she don't need no man to tell her how to run her life! OR SUPPORT HER! Bitch can solo all by herself, and insanely well at that! The downside of being any hybrid is always being in a party with either of your halves... A RAcast/RAmar will always outdamage you in a party, and a force of any kind makes your buffs obsolete. This doesn't mean you can't still support though! GIRL YOU DO YA THANG!! UH HUH! YOU KNOW THATS RIGHT JUSTICE! Every party always benifits from extra restas! Chances are you'll be partying with alot of noob forces so always ask what level S/D they have! Sometimes your buffs and debuffs will be better so act like a woman and SPEAK YO MIND GIRRRRRL.

Hey this girl can still fight though. SHE GREW UP IN THE HOOD HOMIE! SHE KNOWS HOW TO HOLD HER GAT! You'll still be doing decent damage! After all you are a Ranger! Berserk away without fear my dear as a resta is always near! With your large TP pool, restas are like candy to you. CHEAP CANDY THAT YOU CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF. RESTA RESTA RESTA. Resta till you are restaing in yo sleeeeeep. But seriously, don't resta for little damage, you should still be somewhat conservative with your TP.

Attack spells.... WOOO DADDY. You got em' girl. level 20 and ready fo dis honey to make dat money! Gizondes gifoies, rabarta and occationally rafaoie are all your friends. Frozen shooter/snow queen is still better than Gibarta/RAbarta so w/ez girl you can go either way. OH THATS SEXY U SAYIN DIS CHICKZ BI? Oh yeah shes bi. Force and Ranger she goes both ways.....

Erm yeah...

Anyway, VIVIENNE is your like your closest girlfriend. TAKE HER EVERYWHERE WITH YOU EVEN THE BATHROOM. This thing steals TP. If you are running low whip this little lady out and snake somea dat sweet sweet tp necter. Don't be afraid to shank some ho's wit dat excalibur too since you can heal off that berserk recoil. No woman should be caught without her shank. Or was that pepper spray? Whatever.

Aside from being just so damn fine, RAmarls can equip Clio and prinicipal's gift parasol. Clio has HUGE MST, and you can be a psuedo force with it equipted. Zalure range increase by 1x. The Principal's Gift Parasol increases the range of RESTA/SHIFTA/DEBAND by x1! This is extremely helpful because you won't have to rush over to your party members to support them. Using these weapons is KEY to being a great support RAmarl, and the MST/Zal boost of Clio aids your soloing exponentially. Keep in mind (haha pun) that Clio requires 900 MST so you might not be able to equipt it for some time depending on your material build. I will suggest one that gains it early on.

Not even HUnewearls get to use Clio, so you really should try to get your hands on one.

-To find: EP4 ult Greenil Astark... or Purplenum Kondrieu

Optimal Gear:

-Shield:

Red Ring/Ranger wall: See RAcast for description

-Armour:

Virus Armour/ Leutenant Mantle: See RAmar for description

-Units:

V101/502: See RAcast for description

ADEPT: This is a must have for RAmarl. This decreases your TP consumption and increases all of your stats by 15 (ata by 20 past base)... Just get it!

V801: Use this for faster spells~ Pretty basic. =)

MAXING STATS:

COMING SOON

RAcaseal...

-------------------------

PROS:

Can melee okay

Best DFP in the game

High HP, DEF and EVP make her a tank (IF you even consider this a PRO)

Traps/Trap vision

Can use female gear?

CONS:

Low Attack power

Terrible placement of stats (Ranger TANK? WTF)

No spells

Horrible Trap Build (specializes in confuse)

Low ATA

No cool ramarl attack animation

Can't use Resta

Can't use Virus Armour

Cannot SOLO at all!

Completely dependant on buffs to have any attack power

Useless in parties even though it needs them

Overview:

Don't pick RAcaseal it's the worst class in the game.

:onion-head33:

...

Okay so that isn't good enough for you? You need to know why? Okay we'll play your game.

Think of a Hucast.

Now take away his sword and give him a gun.

Make him weak as hell.

Now you have a good idea of what playing a RAcaseal is like. It's like you have all of the downsides of being a RAcast without any of the positives other than traps and even that you fail at. (RAcaseal has the worst trap builds of all the robots IMO HAVING THE WORST FREEZE TRAP GROWTH)

You have nice EVP THE BEST DFP, and great HP. SO WHAT? You're a friggen ranger, the point is to never get hit? WHY THE HELL WOULD THEY GIVE A RANGER THE BEST DEFENSE IN THE GAME IF HE'S NOT SUPPOSED TO GET HIT? You're in theory supposed to be shooting the enemy. You have the defenses of a hunter with shit terrible attack power! How does that ever make sense!?

Mr. Justice.. at least we have Vivienne!

F*** VIVIENNE! YOU HAVE NO TP RENDERING IT USELESS. You can melee decently because of your def, but that still doesn't change the fact that you have NO ATTACK POWER. Use Excalibur if you MUST melee... but serious ZERK SUCKS ON RACASEAL. You don't have resta and you have no attack power. How feeble. People will think its cute that you are trying to do damage though... WHO AM I KIDDING.... FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T CHOOSE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU WANT A CHALLENGE.

What's the point of a wall if you can't use resta??? Why do we even need a meat sheild? WAIT THAT DOESN'T EVEN MATTER BECAUSE WE HAVE A SHIELD ON OUR ARM. RAcaseal is useless w/o buffs and even still useless with them. A RAcast AND RAmar outclass it by far... and the RAmar has its own buffs and good ATA.

It's just like.... WHY? WHYYYYYYYYYYY WOULD THEY MAKE THIS CHARACTER. SHE'S AS BAD AS THE LIP SYNC IN THE SONIC ADVENTURE CUTSCENES.

Can I say it like this: TL;DR VERSION

RAcaseasl HAS TANK ABILITY WITH NO RESTA, AND HORRENDOUS ATTACK POWER WITH NO SPELLS

That's all you need to know about RAcaseal. If you are a machocist and you MUST play her just read my overview for RAcast but ignore all the parts about it being good. You're a mentally challenged RAcast basically.

maxing stats:

COMING SOON

So yeah! That's all the time we have for today :onion-head05:

Check out my other guide if you haven't already!

I'll be adding the Material Builds and best ways to Max your stats for each class soon!

Okay, here we go:

1. You stress RAmarl is the best solo'er in the game... I have to respectfully disagree with you. I would just call her the easiest solo'er (along with FOmarl), with the best solo'ing job being in the hands of HUcast/RAmar.

Zyn, you're a fucking idiot. HUcast doesn't get any supports, and RAmar doesn't get any sort of Zalure! RAmarl Shifta is also stronger which obviously makes her have more ATP than both of them!!

Let me give you some numbers:

HUcast: 1739 ATP with L3 Shifta (12.6% extra power) = 1958 ATP. (From the weapon "S-Red's Blade)

RAmar: 1360 ATP with L15 Shifta (28.2% extra power) = 1743 ATP.

RAmarl: 1245 ATP with L20 Shifta (34.7% extra power) = 1677 ATP.

What do we see here? Oooh, RAmarl appears to have less ATP than both of them. Of course, this is going to come up:

"But HUcast and RAmar don't have Zalure! This makes them much worse, as RAmarl can further her damage even more!"

Sure. But HUcast and RAmar have access to 21 Zalure. The answer lies in S-Ranks.

Zalure S-Ranks can be obtained on Ultima provided you have a Naka's card from an event. This may take a while to obtain generally, in which I do actually recommend you to make a RAmarl for solo'ing, but once you have the ability to obtain a Zalure S-Rank (and you believe it is the one you want), RAmar and HUcast will easily outshine RAmarl with Zalure Shot and Zalure Slicer. Zalure and Jellen on S-Ranks cannot miss (even on lizard FRONTS), and are extremely easy to use. HUcast also has access to traps, furthering increasing his solo potential, plus a high ATP weapon (Dark Flow).

2. Confuse Lizards, please do not Freeze them. This is wasting freeze traps, and only complicates things as it's hard to hit groups of lizards unless you wait for them (zzz). Lame D'Argent is not a hard drop on Ultima, therefore Excalibur is quite easily obtainable (especially if you have a Whitill). If that doesn't work (because you don't have one/having trouble obtaining), a Charge Partisan from the shop is also very good for dispatching lizards, but once again, waiting for the lizards to group to Freeze Trap is a really bad idea. Confuse is better as it causes lizards to group together easily for Excal (in 2s, generally, but sometimes 3s if it's a large group), rather than having them group around you, as Excalibur has a very straight-forward hit radius, and not much to the sides (like a sword)

3. "CASTs are bad at 'zerking, blablabla"

Freeze Traps. Mates. 10 Dimates and 10 Trimates is enough to get you through any quest. Even a quest such as MU3 Episode 4 (with heat rooms! (essentially poison)) can be completed by a team full of CASTs with plenty of mates towards the end (without using any of the healing rings) while 'zerking alot during the quest. If you're 'zerking alot (and I mean alot), just pop a Trimate once you're done with your session or you think you're going to get hit soon. You shouldn't be able to use a full set of mates just on 'zerking providing you're using your traps to control enemies (or Spread Needle (Arrest Needle for Fleshies) for Paralysis).

4. "RAmar Strength = Resta"

Not really. Look at this:

RAmar Max HP: 1770 (Going to be 1870 when Larva gets around to it)

RAmar Resta Power: 502 (at max MST, so you need to max that along with all your other stats to get the full benefit of it)

Resta on a RAmar is really not too bad from time to time, providing you're in between rooms or waiting for something, but otherwise, it's a pretty dumb thing to do, as you'll have to cast 2/3 times with a slow-casting Resta, thus allowing the enemies to hit you more, causing you to use more Resta... So the cycle repeats. On a RAmar, due to him needing so many Restas, he's better carrying mates around for the fray, and only using Resta when there's no immediate danger.

5. (This isn't directly related to your topic, but I thought I'd put it here anyway) "Fleshies have their own Resta, so should always use that." (This is a tip to others, by the way, not a criticsm)

Okay, so, this is definitely not true at all. Think about Resta. You have to stand there for a few seconds while things are after you. It's still one of the most useful spells in the game (don't get me wrong), but there are many events where you can avoid waiting for abit with Resta and use a mate instead. The usefulness of a mate doesn't seem understood by alot of the PSO community, but a mate stops you lagging behind your party, it stops you getting hit from that enemy next to you, it lets you kill stuff faster, etc. etc. Every little bit helps.

There's also the thing of "You should be giving me Resta when I'm on low HP!" (Tip to others, again)

Really? What if I'm busy on my FOnewearl using Demon's on those 3 Bringers/Sinows/Detonators?

What if you're the one who happened to miss the Sinow coming after you and it ended up hitting you while I'm busy giving buffs to the party?

What if I'm killing stuff on my RAmarl and I'm in mid-mechgun combo?

There's a reason a CAST has mates: To use them. You should always see Resta as a luxury from the support rather than a god-given right. The support classes in this game are special in that they can always assist with killing things very well unlike some other games you might've played. (This applies to FOnewm/FOnewearl, too). Now, if I'm on my RAmarl/FO, I will always see it as my job to Resta people when they're roughly about halfway down their bar, but if I'm doing something at a point when your HP gets low, use a damn mate, they're there for a reason. It's not my fault that I was doing something and you were stupid enough to use a mate. If you have someone who's just standing there spamming Resta, fine, but if someone is trying to do something while you're dying and not using a mate, it's really your own fault you died since you didn't mate.

Random notes: Adept isn't really that useful on RAmarl. She doesn't need the TP Cut, 10DF/TF will get her through just about anything. It's much more worth it using a Cure/H/HP or something like that.

S-Part's is a Shield, not armour, and therefore useless on CASTs.

I also don't recommend trying to get a Red Ring for your Ranger and not for your Hunter first, instead just get your Ranger to use Ranger Wall (it gives the same amount of ATA as Red Ring, which is the main use of Red Ring, which RAw does, lol) while your Hunter is using Red Ring, as that's their best (Red Ring > RAw yes, but you're not going to see a significant performance increase with RR with a RA as you do on a Hunter).

Shifta Merge and Resta Merges are very good shields on RAmarl. I honestly recommend holding a Resta Merge most of the time if you're playing in a party as a pseudo-FO on a RAmarl. If you're with a good party who can support themselves with Mates, though, you can use RAw.

RAs are no different at melee to each other... TP Restoration with Vivienne is just ":/" as it wastes too much time, as a Trifluid gives you it all back, and it's not hard to obtain Meseta. They all obtain Excalibur. I guess you could say RAcast is the best melee'er because he has the most ATP, lol.

If you're a RAmar, unequip your weapon before casting spells. Males cast spells faster when they're unarmed, so you can see the reasoning here. Once you get used to it, you lose no time switching out your weapon.

NOTE: You can't max the stats on the characters (except RAmar) without using full stat units. :\ The extra stats made this impossible, since the material usage number was not increased. Instead, I recommend just maxing ATP/ATA/MST/LCK on your characters, as that's easy.

EDIT: Knew I forgot something... Star Atomizers have the range of your Resta. This means that it also applies boosts! If you're playing a RAmarl, it's a good idea to stock up on Star Atomizers, so when you're running through corridors, equip your PGP and Resta Merge and Star instead of Resta'ing, so you don't lag.

[Maybe more to go here.]

Thank you Zynetic. :onion-head41:

Your nerdy input is always welcomed!

But keep in mind Zyn this is a low-level guide... much advanced things like Zal needles I haven't included as it would be useless information for many who play on ultima . :)

Yeah, I'm quite aware, but the way I see it, you should still include them for players who have gone past the beginner stage and are still seeking more advice.

And I used to always follow higher level guides as a newbie, as it let me know what I should be trying for.

JUSTICE'S RANGER GUIDE- PART 2

Overview:

Don't pick RAcaseal it's the worst class in the game.

:onion-head33:

I beg to differ. Racaseal may not have the best ATP stat but they are by far not the worst. Ever see a FOmar with no experience try to solo? It wasn't a pretty sight. IMO there is no "worst" class as every class has their own quirks, so your playstyle is going to be different.

RAcaseal has the second highest HP, best DFP and honestly the rest of her stats are not that bad, especially considering that a few ATP in the end game makes little difference when fightning enemies in Ultimate difficulty.

You say they can't solo. Oh they can solo up to a point effectively, after that they either need a group or need to exercise a lot of caution... but this true of any Android.

Your argument that they specialize in confuse traps makes them bad is invalid. I've become really good at blitzing though groups of enemies, dropping a confuse trap then turning around at the last second and detonating it. You know what? I'd rather have them beating on each other than me... and confuse traps effectively tag everything anyway so I'm not really missing anything. In fact, I've had more luck with my confuse traps than my freeze traps.

You mentioned Vivienne is useless for RAcaseal. I concede that the "Special Attack" on it is useless, but in situations where I have to melee alongside with my partner, I use a Double Saber. It's perfect for dealing with Chaos Bringers, Chaos Sorcerers at close range and Delsabers which annoy the piss out of me.

Alone I decimate relatively effectively sure it takes me 1-2 more hits than a RAcast, but who cares. I made a RAcast, played him for all of 5 minutes and promptly forgot about him. I dislike missing 3 out of every 8 attacks.

Just to clear something up, I personally am Pro RAcaseal, however that is my opinion and my opinion alone. If you can rock out with a RAcast or a RAmar be my guest. Love soloing with a RAmarl? Don't let me stop you. My point is that everyone is going to see things from a different angle... that being said, there is no silver bullet guide to point you to the ultimate class. You can look at the facts and figures all you want, but it all comes down to your experience. I've been playing RAcaseals since the Dreamcast and that's not likely to change just because class balance doesn't give them the highest ATA stat anymore (RAmar for some ungodly reason gets that now). Justice, you've probably been playing RAcasts for just as long. In your experience he's better and I won't argue with you over what's better. My experience tells me that RAcaseals are more fun, and for me at least, the superior ranger class.

The worst class in the game is actually HUnewearl, with the worst RA being RAcaseal and worst FO being... idk depends, FOs can do alot of things.

RAmars and RAmarls have their own human perks; 250 materials and techniques. But they are both more useful than RAcaseal (RAcaseal > RAmarl in a party with a FO, but only just) due to ATP. RAcaseal HAS to rely on a Force, unless you want things going super slow, or having to use too much 45% Demon's; RAcast does not as he has enough ATP.

Due to the humans differing to the CASTs, it's best to compare RAcaseal with her male counterpart: The RAcast.

Let's compare the two.

RAcast advantages

175 more ATP (1450/1275)

74 more HP (2214/2140)

Better Trap Growth (maxes FT at 162)

RAcaseal advantages

7 more ATA (241/234)

82 more DFP (688/606)

88 more EVP (817/729)

---

Okay. First think about this:

What are the most important stats in PSO?

Now think about this:

Is 7 ATA enough to offset 145 extra ATP (which will also be affected by Shifta, so the gap will become larger), more survival to the deadliest attacks (set HP attacks) and a better trap growth?

Realise that a Ranger can equip Ranger Wall, which gives them an extra 20 ATA, stacking with maximum. This gives RAcast 254 ATA, and RAcaseal 261. If you ask me, 254 is more than enough, especially if you're running around with hit equipment, which you should be on certain weapons (Mechguns, Shot, Frozen Shooter, Heaven Striker, etc.)

Freeze Traps > Confuse Traps. You talk about enemies not hitting you and hitting each other when you drop a Confuse Trap.

Drop a Freeze Trap and they won't attack you and have lower EVP so you can connect hits easier. Freeze Traps take the cake, as they allow you to hit nearly anything with maximum ATA and enough hit on your weapons, and this applies to RAcaseal too.

DFP and EVP are near-useless stats, really, if you have to sacrifice your offense. In PSO, everything is offense. Everything dies quickly. Anyone's who played with me will realise this. I don't get hit that often (except when something goes wrong, which does happen, even to the best of people), and things die quickly since I don't sacrifice my ATP for DFP. 606 DFP is plenty, really, with just a Black Hound Cuirass (+300DFP) and 30Deband. Jellen isn't even needed, especially if you possess a Red Ring, which is an easy hunt here.

RAcast can take an extra Baranz Missile, he can tank Desert Yowies with 2 H/HPs (+V101/V502), etc. etc. His extra HP is really useful, even if it only seems to be a little bit.

You may seem to 'miss' more on a RAcast, but you won't hit much more on a RAcaseal, and on a RAcast, you can still kill in the same amount of attempted hits than a RAcaseal as his ATP will allow him to miss once or twice with something like Sacrifical Mechguns.

And yes, everything does come down to your experience, but playing a RAcast over a RAcaseal gives you a much higher potential as a RAcaseal will limit you at some point. For example, if you are TA'ing, RAcaseal has the problem of not being able to combo kill/chain enemies, where a RAcast would easily.

It isn't impossible to do things on a RAcaseal, it's just alot damn slower than a RAcast.

Infact, we've cleared (well, almost) Realms of War using 2 RAcaseals, a RAcast and a FOnewm. If you can play well, you can do things, but of course, if we used RAcasts for Realms of War, we probably would complete.

umm actually grace, justice & zyn are both right. Racast is way better than Racaseasl. A ramar even has better atp than racaseal and they can even use 15 buffs & resta. I mean no disrespect and i know you love Racaseal's grace, but it is the truth.

for grace and sephiroth, i see wat your sayin. facts are facts but one must look at their ultimate goal in PSO. is it to be the very best pro u could in in the game period? or is it too be good at it while havin fun? why do u play? to show how good u are? to show how much u know bout things compared to other ppl? or give your PSO game fun and a sense of personality (like i do lawl)? noobs starting out will go after what they like first. meaning OMG TEH HUMARZ/RAMARZ LOOKZ KEWL N IZ BALANCE N GOT DIS KOOL SPIKY HAIR N VIZORS n pik dat class(example). theyre prolly not gonna care bout specific statistics like dat. now pros make guides. ask urself, what is ur reasoning behind the guides? more importantly, what do u want a person to learn n execute after reading ur guide? please put out da facts (just n zyn do a good job on dis) to set da record str8. the facts are good for debating (god knows i lub tawkin bout PSO) but if possible dont be biased. give us da facts, but dont try to encourage or persuade us (noobs at least) into a particular way of thinkin. people( even guests) read stuff n think like OH SHIZZ I WONT GIT DA FAILCCASEAL KUZ SHE SUX (even tho she wouldve ben my first choice) in endgame times, comparing mars to marls and casts to caseals (altho HUney is SO mcuh betta dan HUmar but dat didnt stop me from maining a HUmar then startin a HUney) the different is there but not to a point where the other is ineffective. i play to have fun wit my fave weps, most ofwhich are not pro weps. any class can do good in any area. there are specialties n sum classes are better, but when u play a fighting game, u dont expect every char to be b equally balanced? that is difficult to do n it would suck. racaseals got nerfed from da DC version while ramars got a boost. thats evident in their respective stat builds. humars IMO got nerfed the most which is pretty much why hunewearls out classes them so much.my conclusion: take da facts into consideration but play the way you REALLY wanna play. datz how u enjoy the game xD

Lol, the poll means shit. People are just probably picking RAcaseal because they think they look cute or because they're trying to be funny since Justice said they're the worst class.

Damn, u got me lol :onion-head63:

Yea, the poll is not really accurate as everyone will pick his favorite class, despite the stats...

A better poll would be : what class u like the most?

PS: quote from Justice : "SEXY lookz are half the way" so in that contest, RAcast would be as sexy as a trashcan lol

Have a nice day ^^
