splinter07
So, I have a Mac and I recently started missing PSO. A lot (I used to play the Xbox version non-stop). So I installed windows on VirtualBox VM and have been getting some issues trying to launch the app. Let me go through some issues I have: Running the .exe file takes several seconds if not minutes for the launcher to appear. Once the launcher appears it gives me these errors "Error while getting player count. Error while downloading news." Also the Patch Server, Logon Server, etc. buttons/boxes are red and are not selectable (not sure if they should be) I try clicking start game and a black window will appear (if I'm on windowed mode) for a fraction of a second then disappear. I read that you need to select the right resolution for it to work on your computer but I have been through almost every configuration (wide screen, normal, windowed, etc) with multiple resolutions and am having no luck. Is there any other resources available for me or has anyone had these issues as well? I just want to play PSO again. Thanks.

splinter07
Yeah, I saw this post already. I don't think it solves any of the problems I am having.

splinter07
Well, as of today, it has started showing me that I am connected to the server and it is showing me player counts etc. I'm not sure if that was a problem on my end, but that is good. I still can't launch the app however. Are there any users on here that use parallels or VirtualBox to run PSO? Thanks
shion255
I'm using Parallels and it works just perfectly. I'm not using coherence mode.
splinter07
I figured out some more stuff. But I'm not sure if you can actually run PSOBB on VirtualBox. Anyways, you have to enable direct3d. There is a tutorial on how to do that on VirtualBox here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rg57ERNDMws. I can now get into the game and create a character. However, once I get through the connection screen my game will crash... I might have to invest in parallels or install with bootcamp... Thanks for the help so far. splinter07
I finally installed Windows 7 using bootcamp and it is working a lot better than with VirtualBox. I can get all the way to the ship selection. I think I'm all ready to play now. I'm just waiting for those ships to return!
