  1. If any of these items are unfamiliar the wiki should give a good enough idea. I’d prioritize Cent/Battle and Serene Swan set. Pretty much can clear every quest with that alone. https://www.phantasystaronline.net/forum/index.php?/wiki/items/ Edit: I'd also like to say that PSO isn't necessarily a strict "BiS" game. It's pretty rare for people to use that term on this game because there's many different options and most spawns have different "BiS" solutions compared to the ones before or after. There's absolutely still a group of items that are the best, but that doesn't mean they're the best everywhere. That's something that has to be evaluated spawn by spawn in each quest. Weapons: -Serene Swan -Dark Flow -Vjaya -Slicer of Vengeance -Some form of Vulcan (charge / berserk Vulcan, vises, type me, or whatever) -Daylight Scar -Excalibur These would be your main damage weapons and you pretty much can’t go wrong with any of them. Utility Weapons: -Twin Blaze -Morolian Blaster -TJS -Boomerang -Kiss of Death -Asteron Striker -Zalure Handgun -S-Reds Blade -Ultima Reaper There’s more of these utility type weapons but learning twin blaze stuff will make every quest easier. The rest of this crap you can just get whenever. Armor: Sonic Team Armor D-Parts Shield: Ylvis Costume Kasami Bracer Black Ring units: Cent/Battle Smartlink Cent/Arm Cure/status V502 Cent/Body You’d be mostly capable of fully optimal combat with all these items. A lot of the utility ones can wait.

  2. It's a reward for completing Power Plant Plight, an EP2 custom quest in CCA that ends with Gal Gryphon. It's a fun and short quest.

  3. I definitely need to look up some of these. I know there isn't really a 'best' in this game, but I do enjoy reading what people think are the most useful or powerful gear. Wait how do I get a mag with less than 5 def? Other than that I have everything but the C/battle I'm pretty much settled on armor. I'm wearing a Wedding Dress and Red Ring

  8. I hope I'm not too late to the thread to help you. I got a copy of EpI&II+ for the Gamecube when it came out, and played it with my brother and cousins. I played about 200 hours then, before we all started to get bored of the game. I started playing on a different private server, Schthack, a few years later. There I met some really great people and had an amazing time re-exploring the game. However the server went down due to hardware failure, and I once again drifted off to other things. When I saw on facebook that schthack had come back online last year, I got really excited. I downloaded it and registered a new account. I wanted to reconnect with all the people I'd played with. However, the server was very sparcly populated. I asked around and learned that most of the people had come to Ultima after the hardware failure, so I decided to give that a try. Unfortunately, when I registered with Ultima, I couldn't find any of my friends. I stayed about two weeks before I decided that at the end of the 2nd week I'd move on to another game. Then I met @Mayte and @griffeni who invited me to their team. I quickly grew to love the team and it's members. The community here was almost more than I could have dreamed of. They invited me to play, showed me all the tricks of the trade, took me on whatever runs I wanted to run (even when I really shouldn't have been there), and let me borrow some top end gear to use while I found my own stuff. I still remember running Raid On Central Tower quest (a custom tower quest made for a team of four max level players) with just @Mayte when I was only level 140. We obviously didn't win. But I had such fun that we ended up running that quest so many times that I ended up buying my first custom server item with pd found there. I made some great friends on that team, a good deal of them I still play with from time to time. Eventually, like all good things, it came to an end. I ended up moving to a new team where I made even more friends. About this time I realize that I no longer wanted to be the one accepting everyone's charity. That I needed to find something that I could do to give back. I thought about donating to the server, but money was really tight at the time. And I couldn't afford anywhere near what the server deserved from me. At that point I'd played here over 600 hours for free. During a run of Raid On Central Tower, helping one of my friends find a certain item, I had an epiphany. If other people could make custom stuff for the server, so could I. I searched that night and came out with some software that would edit Phantasy Star Online quest files. Over the next few months I developed a quest of my own, now called Power Plant Plight. It became an obsession. I would go to my lectures, as I was in school, with a pad of paper and plan out another room or two instead of listening. It was a very difficult start. There was a lot about the process that I didn't know. One of the great things you'll hear here is that the community is small, which makes it very personal and builds long lasting and strong relationships. However, when you're working in a development project, this can be a problem since a lot of the time no one knows what you need to know. Between start to finish, I probably spent 300 hours testing, debugging, and building that quest. It underwent 13 different versions. Since then I have gotten two others into quest creation; @R-78 and @orgodemir. We've put out a total of 8 quests (I think I got that number right; PPP, CCC, BBB, TTT, Lemon's Shop, HOD1, HOD2, IDS). And I've found a way to pay the server back for the over 1200 hours of amazingness that I've gotten out of it. As my father always told me, "You only get out of something what you put into it." In case you need this information for anything I'll cover it as well. I am still playing because of the great friends I have here. I didn't mention the majority of them in the post earlier, mainly because I'd probably leave someone out, but they are the reason I log on. Even if we just end up talking in the lobby. Also, I really don't like modern MMOs. Maybe I haven't gotten far enough into them, but they tend to lack strategy, team composition, or diversity of roles. They also lack the amazing community that PSO has. I always play PSO with other people. I prefer support roles, so solo play tends to be very dull and uninteresting to me. I wouldn't say continuously since Gamecube, I took a few years breaks when I couldn't find a place to play with others. I loved the team and friendly atmosphere. I never got to play online, but even offline it wasn't about the items or the characters, but about the people you were playing with. In most other MMOs i've played players can almost be replaced by AI and you'd never know you weren't playing online. PSO is the only game I've played where I felt like the person I was playing with was a real person, with real feelings and real problems and a real life. I'm not sure if they'll last, but I'm sure if I found myself in trouble there are people here I could contact that would give me a shirt, a bus fare, or a couch to crash on. I don't even know how to write about how it's impacted my life. It's been such a huge part that It's kind of a daunting task to pick apart where it's not effected. One of the biggest things I can think of off the top of my head is when my grandfather died. It was a Thursday in winter. I was living at school at the time. When I got the phone call, I needed to be alone at first, so I went home and cried. It sounds weird, but after that I needed to hear people talking. So I logged onto the voice chat here, and just sat in and listed to the banter and bickering. I logged in and did a run or two with some friends. And by the end of the night when I went to sleep, I was feeling much better. There are quite a few of these, but none that really make good stories. I'm 21 years old. I hope this helps you write your article.

  10. Surely it's not extraordinary. I agree. This game mostly isn't hard, yet there's not many players that compare even within the scene. I think most players COULD climb to where I am if they wanted to. I really haven't talked about "internals" of quests because that's not what the question asks from the original post (from my perspective anyway) and that's not where I feel experienced. I personally don't care about the internals of a quest so long as it functions. That's just me as a player though. I don't think about the internals when evaluating quests because like I said it doesn't really have to impact the quality of the quest in relation to gameplay so long as it's not totally fucked. I also never said that a quest being speed-runnable is what made it good. My initial post pretty much only talks about the composition of the enemies because in my eyes that's the major contributing factor to the quality of the quest. I didn't really touch much about qedit / pw and still won't because that's not what I am talking about. Also in regards to that last bit... I don't know how much you play public games, but if you did play them frequently across literally any server you'd know the majority of players don't know even their favorite quests down to the tee and play silly relative to TA standards. I don't think most people are discussing quest internals here. I certainly am not and I think most players here are talking about the content inside the playable quest as I said before. In fact looking over the whole thread I think you're really the only person to interpret this as a discussion about the internals of the quest. I surely don't have any releases for quests. I never claimed to be a quest designer (as in my original post here lol), but to think I know nothing of qedit is silly. I've spent a fair share of time on it. I used to use it to study spawns and have made things for testing purposes until phantasmal world came out and now we use that mostly. I don't really have much else to say on this bit. Shiidas quest are not for me. She's not the only one though. There's other quests I don't like. Endless Nightmare #1 ( even relative to other forest quests. sega btw) is garbage, Max Attack S 1/4 are pretty bad (rika), PTS, Fragments of Memory, and some others. If you think that's insulting I don't know what to tell you. I don't think the spawns are fun. All user relative. I don't know where you get the "right to judge" from, but everyone is entitled to their opinions lol. "Across all servers people will use what's best" I don't think you could be more wrong. I think TA pretty much proves what's actually "best" and it's very rare to see players outside of the scene perform that way on any server. Players use what's easiest typically (especially on Ultima where Dark Meteor is double buffed). You swap mid comment to "best" to "best for them" when that's almost always factually something different. Any quest that is cleared with mostly only one item will be lame to me. It doesn't matter if it's Dark Meteor or Dark Flow. I absolutely hate PW4 because for the most part it's just DF one thing after another after another floor to floor until the end. A good quest should have diversity in patterns that allow for multiple solutions. I think that all makes sense.
